Research Proposal

1. Field of research
Master in science and hydropower (Mechanicals)
2. Topic of research
Development of water management for sustainable and clean energy in coastal region
of east coast peninsular Malaysia and west coast Sabah and Sarawak.
3. Background of research
The research is about water management for development green energy at coastal
area. Water management has recently become a major concern for many countries.
During the last century consumption of water and energy has been increased in the
world. This trend is anticipated to continue in the decades to come. One of the
greatest reasons is the unplanned industrial activities deteriorating environment in
the name of rising standard of life. What is needed is the avoidance of environmental
pollution and maintenance of natural balance, in the context of sustainable
development. However, Malaysia’s geographical location has several advantages for
extensive use of most of the renewable energy resources especially at coastal area.
4. Problem statement
 The pollution area of industrial area in coastal region effect the beach
landscape and marine life.
 The dependent on fuel to produce electricity cause the water to become acidic
and not suitable for civilian.
5. Objective
 To ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation is
healthy for all.
 To conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resource for
sustainable development by determining the coastal Malaysia region is
suitable for renewable energy.

and modern energy for all
11. Conclusion
Water and energy are the two important engines of sustainable development. In the
energy sector, the basic policy of Malaysia is the provision of cheap electrical energy
on time and in sufficient quality and quantity. Investments in hydropower deserve
special support as they are clean and have a long economic life-span.

To conclude, the development of water resources constitutes an important element

in Malaysia’s economic development program. There are several outstanding
challenges which constitute the basis for future action. All of these need to be
overcome by developing this precious resource in an equitable, reasonable and
optimal way. Therefore, it is of considerable importance for Malaysia that the
development, management, use and protection of water resources should be planned
in an integrated manner taking into account all the economic and social needs of its
people.
