IMRAN KHAN
HISTORY
Imran Khan was born to an upper-middle class Pashtun family in Lahore, Punjab in 1952. He was
educated at Aitchison College in Lahore. After that, he went to Royal Grammar School Worcester
in Worcester, England, and later for higher studies at Keble College, Oxford.

CAREER
There were several accomplished cricket players in Imran Khan’s family, including two elder
cousins, Javed Burki and Majid Khan, who both served as captains of the Pakistani national team.
Imran Khan played cricket in Pakistan and the United Kingdom in his teens and continued playing
while studying philosophy, politics, and economics at the University of Oxford.
Imran Khan played his first match for Pakistan’s national team in 1971. In 1992 Imran Khan
achieved his greatest athletic success when he led the Pakistani team to its first World Cup title,
defeating England in the final. He retired the same year, having secured a reputation as one of the
greatest players in history.

SOCIAL WORK
In one of Imran Khan’s philanthropic endeavors, he acted as the primary fund-raiser for the
Shaukat Khanam Memorial Cancer Hospital, a specialized cancer hospital in Lahore, which was
opened in 1994. The hospital was named after Imran Khan mother, who had died of cancer in
1985.

POLITICAL CAREER
After Imran Khan retirement from cricket, he became an outspoken critic of the government and
corruption in Pakistan. He founded his own political party, Tehreek-e-Insaf in 1996. In national
election held the following year, the newly formed party won less than one percent of the vote and
failed to win any seats in the National Assembly. In spite of Tehreek-e-Insaf’s struggles in election,
Imran Khan continued his struggle for achieving his ultimate target. In the months loading up to
the general election scheduled for early 2013, Imran Khan and his party drew large crowds at
rallies and attracted the support of several politicians from various parties. After decades of his
struggles and fight against bad governance and corruption, Tehreek-e-Insaf won majority of seats
in National Assembly, he became Prime Minister on August 18.
SIMILARITIES
 The continuous desire to be hungrier to achieve our goals is the thing that Imran Khan
teaches and is also the thing I feel in my own self.
 Imran Khan wanted to take a change in Pakistan and that is what my ambition is to do. To
do something even if it is not that big but for the prosperity of my country.
 One of the main things that Imran Khan and I had in common is that we both are good in
sports especially in cricket.
 Mental strength is also very important and I had started working on it a lot. My inspiration
Imran Khan has also stated that mental strength is the key to success. We can have all the
talent but if we don’t have the character to translate that talent into performance, it is
wasted.

LESSONS I HAVE LEARNT FROM IMRAN KHAN’S LIFE

 Failure teaches us more than winning. It completely exposes our weaknesses to us. Imran
Khan told the real meaning of struggle and proved that no one can climb the ladder of
success with both hands in pockets.
 Consistency is the key to success, Imran Khan proved this proverb, as 22 years of his
continuous struggle finally bore fruit. We can adapt this aspect in life if we want to be
successful.
 Be Patriotic in every part of your life. Despite living abroad with no thoughts/work for
his country, Imran Khan came back. He knew the condition of his country. He proved
patriotic, came back to Pakistan left behind his family and children.
 Strong team lets you win. Making Imran Khan reach his goal in 22 years might not have
been possible without the help of his team.
 Creativity dominates. Imran Khan and his team proved very creative in promoting their
party goals. Giving each of their protests a creative name and promoting them all over
helped them dominate.
