Course Title METHODS OF RESEARCH
Course Description This course focuses on the basic principles and theories of
educational research and elements of the scientific methods of
educational research. Topics are centered on problem
identification, hypothesis, theoretical and conceptual framework
formulation, research methodology and design, data preparation
and collection, instruments, graphic preparation, analysis of data
and interpretation.

Program Education Objectives (PEOs)

1. To prepare graduate study students to assure leadership roles in curriculum and instructional
responsibilities
2. To equip students with skills in effective educational methodology and communication
techniques
3. To provide graduate study students with opportunities to create and effectively manage a
nurturing environment through community practice
4. To provide students with skills in assessing, diagnosing, and monitoring individual needs as
applied in the construction of evaluation tools
5. To discuss issues and integrate theories and research in other related field of education
6. To provide students and adequate knowledge resource based in training in education
management in order to maintain a proper standards of practice
Course Learning Objectives (CLOs)

1. To review/reflect on the program vision and mission of the school of Graduate Studies
2. To know the fundamental concepts of research, its nature, type and role in development and
to grasp an overview of the research process and the various parts of the research report
3. To identify and define research problems
4. To identify the objectives, hypothesis, and variables of the research
5. To formulate the research framework
6. To identify and use the appropriate research design and methodology
7. To know the concepts of sampling and sampling techniques and their roles in research
8. To learn the concept of data collection, techniques and instrumentation
9. To know the concepts of data processing, analysis, and interpretation
10. To learn the procedures of writing the research proposal and report
11. To understand and apply ethics in research

Objectives for Term 1:

The students should be able to:

1. Identify the fundamental concepts of research, its nature, type and role
2. Prepare at least 5 research problems for possible research topic
3. Formulate research framework
4. Construct chapter 1 of the research

Required Deliverables:

1. Facilitator

a. Present the objectives for the term


b. Provide the reference sources (Printed/Electronic)
c. Give feedback to students on their outputs (Face-to-face/ Online)
d. Synthesize the relevance of the activity for the week
e. Assess the student outputs using an agreed rubric
f. Assess student learning through an on-line quiz

a. Pre-class online readings related to project planning
b. Choose a project
c. Presentation of the project plan

a. Pre-class work by viewing videos and online materials about project planning
(Sources to be provided by the facilitator; facilitator makes sure that the sources
can easily be accessed by the students; and facilitator gives instruction through
email)

e. Facilitator synthesizes the relevance of the activity and assesses student learning
based on an agreed rubrics with students.( 30 mins)

a. Learners share their learning with their classmates outside of the classroom
through social media and email.(self-paced)
b. Learners will discuss their problems for research through face-to-face meeting or
group chat .(self-paced)
c. Learners will present their plans in class and will critique on each others’
presentation. (1.5 hours)
