Message
Happy 37th birthday, DMMMSU!

2017 has been another productive year for the University. We take pride in reporting
to you among the most remarkable feats we have etched for the year, which bespeak of
our relentless journey to global distinction as a highly competitive higher education in the
country today, to wit:

• Several topnotchers in licensure exams in mechanical engineering and agriculture

were produced.
• We recorded a good number of Level IV academic programs, where DMMMSU holds
the distinction of being among the SUCs in the country with the most number of
accredited programs.
• There was a deluge of DMMMSU Personnel as paper presenters in international
scientific/academic fora, many of whom bringing home awards.
• The number of Faculty/Personnel (a) whose researches were published in reputable
indexed/refereed journals and (b) who have been co-authors of books remarkably
increased.
• Infrastructure development was massive in all the campuses where new buildings
were erected.
• DMMMSU-NLUC was awarded as this year’s Philippines’ most sustainable and eco-
friendly higher education institution.
• We successfully conducted the 2017 Solid North Personnel Olympics with DMMMSU
at the helm in cooperation with Quirino State University being the host institution.

All these achievements augur well with our theme for this year’s anniversary celebration,
which is “Sustaining Excellence in All Fronts.” I am, therefore, very thankful to all our
constituents, benefactors, stakeholders and supporters for helping build a University which
we are all very proud of. Let’s continue making it one of the best and finest in the country,
and in the international academic arena.

Mabuhay ang DMMMSU!

Message
Charles Darwin said: “It is not the strongest species that survive, nor the most
intelligent, but the ones who are most responsive to change” which holds true for culture
change.

The referent is doing excellence—something we, at the DMMMSU community, often

think of as a destination, one of those places we aspire to reach. We tend to think that, like any destination, once you’ve
arrived, you’re there. But, DMMMSU is not about “going there” but “going beyond”. It also desires what’s needed to stay
long there. Needless to say, DMMMSU’s brilliance that brought the community to that level of excellence must continue and
must grow.

Continuing to plumb the primal wisdom of the Ilokanos in the north, DMMMSU looks into the ways to nurture the
tradition of ingenuity, resiliency and excellence of this community. Here at the South La Union Campus, there is prudence
drawn from our stakeholders’ narratives of struggle and triumph—and continuing tenacity not just to survive but to thrive.

Leading and innovating could make all the difference in sustaining excellence in all angles. As they say, “yesterday’s
‘command and control’ mentality is definitely out”. Hence, everyone is encouraged to take up that space and lead.

The biggest challenge is sitting between our two ears. Our mind is a powerful thing. The stories we tell ourselves and the
things we believe about ourselves can either prevent change from happening or allow new skills to blossom.

And as we aspire to sustain what we have, we must be authentic. Authenticity is being true; and without it, even today’s
biggest empires are destined to fail.

The beauty is in the process of acknowledging that at times we fail—but with this errors, humanity shines through, and
we are able to connect with people and inspire them.

We have to continuously ascertain that everyone is a student and a teacher at the same time. So, please stay passionately
curious, be present – now, and strive for excellence – always! DMMMSU excellence always!

Message
Thirty seven years ago today the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University was
established to provide advanced instruction in the arts, agriculture, fishery, engineering,
and natural sciences as well as technological and professional fields, and to promote
research and extension work.

Through the years, the University’s mandate has evolved as its learners, educators, and
non-academic staff has also evolved. We have done well towards achieving our present goal
to lead in transforming human resources into productive self-reliant citizens and responsible
leaders, considering the challenges we have met over these years.

We are celebrating DMMMSU’s 37th Anniversary fully aware that whatever it is that we
feel joyful about is the cumulative result of our toils since day one. Let us be reminded that
DMMMSU will not be what it is today if not for the contribution of every man, woman, and
child that has been a part of it. And of course, we give thanks to our Almighty God who has
given us good success and will continue to do so in the years to come.
