Forty Hadeeth on Ramadan

1. ‫صب ِْر َوث َ ََلثَةُ أَي ٍهام ِم ْن ُك ِل‬ َ ‫سله َم يَقُو ُل‬
‫ش ْه ُر ال ه‬ َ ‫علَ ْي ِه َو‬ ‫صلهى ه‬

‫ص ْو ُم الده ْه ِر‬

Abu Huraira reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and


blessings be upon him, say, “Fasting Ramadan, the month of patience,
and three days from every month is like fasting a lifetime. [Sunan an-
Nasa'i 2408,Graded Sahih by Sheikh Albani]

َ ‫ِت ِم ْن ش هَوا ٍل َكانَ َك‬

It was narrated from Abu Ayyub that the Messenger of Allah (‫ )ﷺ‬said:
“Whoever fasts Ramadan then follows it with six days of Shawwal, it
is as if he fasted for a lifetime.” Saheeh by Darussalam, Sunan Ibn
maja’ vol 1, Book 7 ,hadeeth 1716

َ ‫ي ال َخي ِْر أ َ ْق ِب ْل َو َيا َبا ِغ‬َ ‫َويُنَادِي ُمنَا ٍد َيا َبا ِغ‬
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon
him, said, “On the first night of the month of Ramadan, the devils are
chained, the jinn are restrained, and the gates of Hellfire are closed and
none of its gates are opened. The gates of Paradise are opened and none of
its gates are closed. A caller announces: O seeker of good, come near! O
seeker of evil, stop short! Allah will save them from the Hellfire and that is
during every night of Ramadan.” [Sunan At-Tirmidhi 68,Hasan (fair)
according to Ibn Hajar]

‫سنَ ِة‬ َ ً‫ف َر ْكعَ ٍة أ َ ْو َكذَا َو َكذَا َر ْكعَة‬ ِ ‫ِستهةَ َآَل‬
Abu Huraira reported: There were two men from the tribe of Quda’ah who
embraced Islam with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. One of
them was martyred and the other lived for another year. Talha said: I had a
dream of Paradise and I saw the one who lived longer enter Paradise before
the martyr. I was amazed by that and when I woke up I mentioned it to the
Messenger of Allah. The Messenger of Allah said, “Did he not fast the month
of Ramadan after him and he performed six thousand or more bowings of
prayer in the year?” [Musnad Ahmed 8195, Graded Sahih by Ahmed Shakir]

‫سو ُل ه‬ َ ‫ع ْن‬

ِ ‫َو َيقُو ُل ت َ َح هر ْوا لَ ْيلَةَ ْالقَد ِْر ِفي ْال َع ْش ِر ْاْل َ َو‬
َ ‫اخ ِر ِم ْن َر َم‬
َ‫ضان‬

Aisha reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon


him, would seek seclusion in the mosque during the last ten nights of
Ramadan and he would say, “Seek the Night of Decree during the last
ten nights of Ramadan.” [Sahih Al-Bukhari 1916]

‫ضانَ َح هجة‬ ُ ‫ان ا ْعت َِم ِري فِي ِه فَإ ِ هن‬
ُ ‫ض‬َ ‫فَإِذَا َكانَ َر َم‬
The Prophet said, “Perform the Umrah pilgrimage when Ramadan arrives,
for Umrah during Ramadan is equal to the Hajj pilgrimage. [Sahih Bukhari
1690, Sahih Muslim 1256]

6. Irbad ibn Sariyah reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and
blessings be upon him, inviting people to the morning meal during
Ramadan and he would say, “Come to the blessed breakfast.”[Sunan
Abu Dawud 2344;Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to Al-Albani]

7. Thawban reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be


upon him, said, “Fasting the month of Ramadan is like ten months of
fasting and fasting six days of Shawwal is like two months of fasting,
so those together is like fasting a year.” [Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah
2115;Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to As-Suyuti]

َ ‫يَجْ ت َ ِهدُ فِي‬
‫غي ِْر ِه‬

Aisha reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would exert
himself in worship during the last ten nights of Ramadan more so than any
other time. [Sahih Muslim 1175]
9. ‫ي لَ ْيلَ ٍة لَ ْيلَةُ ْالقَد ِْر َما أَقُو ُل فِي َها قَا َل قُو ِلي الله ُه هم‬

َ ‫َّللاِ أ َ َرأَيْتَ ِإ ْن‬ ُ ‫ت قُ ْلتُ يَا َر‬
‫سو َل ه‬ ْ َ‫شةَ قَال‬ َ ‫ع ْن‬
َ ِ‫عائ‬ َ
‫عنِي‬ َ ‫ْف‬ َ ْ ْ ُ َ
ُ ‫عف ٌّو ك ِري ٌم ت ِحبُّ العَف َو فاع‬ ُ ُ َ‫إِنك‬ ‫ه‬
Aisha reported: I said, “O Messenger of Allah, I see that you know which
night is the Night of Decree. What should I say during it?” The Messenger of
Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Say: O Allah, You are
pardoning and generous. You love to pardon, so pardon me.” [Sunan At-
Tirmidhi 3513, Graded Sahih by Sheikh Albani]

‫سابًا‬ َ ‫ام َر َم‬َ ‫ص‬َ ‫سله َم َقا َل َم ْن‬ َ ‫ع َل ْي ِه َو‬ ‫صلهى ه‬
َ ُ‫َّللا‬ َ ِ‫َّللا‬‫سو َل ه‬ ُ ‫عن أبي هريرة أ َ هن َر‬
‫غ ِف َر لَهُ َما تَقَد َهم ِم ْن ذَ ْنبِ ِه‬
ُ ‫سابًا‬َ ِ‫ام لَ ْيلَةَ ْالقَد ِْر إِي َمانًا َواحْ ت‬
َ َ‫غ ِف َر لَهُ َما تَقَد َهم ِم ْن ذَ ْنبِ ِه َو َم ْن ق‬
ُ

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings


be upon him, said, “Whoever fasts the month of Ramadan out of faith
and seeking reward, then Allah will forgive all of his previous sins.
Whoever stands in prayer during the Night of Decree out of faith and
seeking reward, then Allah will forgive all of his previous sins.”[Sahih
Muslim 760]

11. Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be


upon him, ascended the pulpit and he said, “Ameen, ameen, ameen.”
It was said, “O Messenger of Allah, you ascended the pulpit and said
ameen, ameen, ameen.” The Prophet said, “Verily, Gabriel came to me
and he said: Whoever reaches the month of Ramadan and he is not
forgiven, then he will enter Hellfire and Allah will cast him far away,
so say ameen. I said ameen. [Sahih Ibn Hibban 915]

12. The Prophet said, “Perform the Umrah pilgrimage when


Ramadan arrives, for Umrah during Ramadan is equal to the Hajj
pilgrimage.”[Sahih Bukhari 1690, Sahih Muslim 1256]
13. Ibn Abbas reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon
him, was the most generous of the people and he was even more
generous during the month of Ramadan when Gabriel visited him.
[Sahih Bukhari 1803, Sahih Muslim 2308]

14. Abdullah ibn Umar reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace


and blessings be upon him, would seek seclusion (i’tikaf) in the
mosque during the last ten nights of Ramadan.[Sahih Bukhari 1921,
Sahih Muslim 1171]

15. Abu Huraira reported: There were two men from the tribe of

16. Thawban reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon

17. Aisha reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him,
would exert himself in worship during the last ten nights of Ramadan

18. Aisha reported: I have never known the Messenger of Allah,


peace and blessings be upon him, to read the entire Quran in a single
night, or to spend the whole night in prayer up until the morning, or
to spend a whole month in fasting, except that he did so during the
month of Ramadan.[ Sunan An-Nasa’i 1641, Sahih (authentic) according
to Al-Albani]

19. Aisha reported: I said, “O Messenger of Allah, I see that you


know which night is the Night of Decree. What should I say during it?”
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Say:
O Allah, You are pardoning and generous. You love to pardon, so
pardon me.”[Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3513]

20. Ibn Umar reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and


blessings be upon him, made it an obligation upon the people to pay
charity upon breaking the fast during the month of Ramadan,
including every freeman and servant, male and female: a portion of
dates or a portion of barely. [Sahih Bukhari 1433, Sahih Muslim 984]

21.
Anas bin Malik narrated that :
the Messenger of Allah said: "Whoever has dried dates, then let him
break the fast with that, and whoever does not, then let him break the
fast with water, for indeed water is purifying."

[Jami` at-Tirmidhi 694, Sahih (Darussalam) ]

22. It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah
(‫ )ﷺ‬said:
"The people will remain upon goodness so long as they hasten to
break the fast. Hasten to break the fast, for the Jews delay it." [Sunan
Ibn Maj’a 1698, Graded Hasan]

23. The prophet (SAW) declared, 'Three men whose dua is never
rejected (by Allah) are: the fasting person until he breaks his fast (in
another narration, when he breaks fast), the just ruler and the one
who is oppressed.'[Ahmad, at-Tirmidhi - Hasan]

24. The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said; Three supplications will


not be rejected (by Allah (SWT)), the supplication of the parent for
his child, the supplication of the one who is fasting, and the
supplication of the traveler. [al-Bayhaqi, at-Tirmidhi – Saheeh]

25. Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The
Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)
said: “There may be people who fast and get nothing from their fast
except hunger, and there may be those who pray qiyaam and get
nothing from their qiyaam but a sleepless night.” [Ibn Maajah, 1690;
classed as saheeh by Ibn Hibbaan, 8/257, and by al-Albaani in Saheeh
al-Targheeb, 10/8]

26. And Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬said: “ The reward for all the actions of the son
of Adam are multiplied (from anywhere between) ten times to seven
hundred times And Allah (Subhaanahu wa Ta'aala) said in a hadeeth
qudsee : except for fasting, then it is for Me and I will give reward for
it; He left off his desires and his food for My sake. For the fasting
person there are two pleasures: his pleasure at the time of breaking
his fast and his pleasure when He meets his Lord.
…And the smell emanating from the mouth of the one who is fasting
is better in the Sight of Allah than the smell of musk.” [Sahih Bukhari
and Muslim]

27.
Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬as saying: Fast is a shield ; when
one of you is fasting, he should neither behave in an obscene manner nor
foolishly. If a man fights or abuses him, he should say: I am fasting, I am
fasting. [Sunan Abi Dawud 2363,Graded Sahih by sheikh Albani]

28. Zaid bin Khalid Al-Juhani narrated that:The Messenger of Allah


said: "Whoever provides the food for a fasting person to break his fast
with, then for him is the same reward as his (the fasting person's),
without anything being diminished from the reward of the fasting
person."[ Jami` at-Tirmidhi 807, Graded Saheeh Darussalam]

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬said (that
Allah said):
"For every good deed that the son of Adam does, he will have
(the reward of) ten the like thereof, except for fasting. It is for
Me and I shall reward for it.[ Sunan an-Nasa'i 2219, Sahih
Darussalam]

30. The Prophet said, “Shall I not tell you about the gates of goodness?
Fasting which is a shield, charity which extinguishes sins just as water
extinguishes fire, and the prayer of a man in the late night.” The Prophet
recited the verse, They arise from their beds and supplicate to their Lord in
fear and hope and they spend from what We have provided them, for no
soul knows what has been hidden for them of comfort as reward for what
they used to do.” (32:16] [Sunan At-Tirmidhi 2616]
