Electrical Signaling

Electrical protective signaling systems are configurations of components used to produce alarm signals indicative of fire, smoke,
sprinkler waterflow or other emergency and to produce supervisory signals indicative of conditions needing attention with respect to
protection equipment or watch service. System configurations are classified according to where and how the signals are received.
The categories are commonly designated as local, municipal, remote station, proprietary, emergency voice/alarm communication,
emergency communication, and central station. Auxiliary systems are either local or proprietary systems interconnected with a
municipal system.
This category presents the major system component categories and the integrated system configurations. The selection of
components to form a hybrid system should be made only by those skilled in system design. Also, the suitability of any system
application should be judged on the basis of the hazard(s) being protected.

Notification Appliances
These audible and visual signaling devices are used to indicate alarms, supervisory signals and equipment trouble conditions.
Audible devices take the form of bells, horns, electronic tone generators, buzzers and chimes. Speakers for emergency voice
communication also are often included in signaling systems. Because distinctive signals are necessary, more than one type of
device may be needed in a system, or devices capable of producing coded signals may be used. Visual signals may be produced
by lamp type or target type annunciators. Printers, code registers and CRT displays also are often included in signaling systems.

GL Series LED Strobes, Horns and Horn/Strobes

GL series LED Multi-Candela Strobes can provide a non-synchronized strobe appliance when connected directly to an FM
Approved Fire Alarm control Panel (FACP), or provide a synchronized strobe appliance when used in conjunction with an FACP
that includes the Wheelock sync protocol, an FM Approved Wheelock Sync Module, or the FM Approved Wheelock Power
Supply. GL Series Strobes with FM Approved Cooper Wheelock PowerPath PS-6 and PS-8 and DSM-12/24 Synchronization
Module provide synchronization/compatibility as defined in the product manual. GL LED Multi-Candela wall mount Strobes can
be field set for 15/30/75/110cd and GL LED Multi-Candela ceiling mount Strobes can be field set for 15/30/75/95cd. The GL LED
strobes are for indoor Fire Protection Service. GL LED Horn Appliances provide a selectable Continuous or Code 3 Horn tone
when connected directly to the FM Approved Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP), a synchronized Code 3 Horn tone when used with
a FACP that includes the Wheelock sync protocol, a Wheelock Sync Module, or the Wheelock Power Supply. The GL series
Horn Appliances can be field set for High (HI) or Low (LO) dBA sound output. The GL series sounder minimum sound output is
75dB. The GL series Horn Appliances are for indoor use only. The GL series Horn Appliance may be wall or ceiling mounted.
All inputs are polarized for compatibility with standard reverse polarity supervision of circuit wiring by an FM Approved FACP.
The GL series Strobe, Horn/Strobe, and Horn are for 24V operation. All wall models may use the GL1xx-BB1G surface
backbox. Trimplate GL1xx-TP may be used with single gang or 4” square backbox.
