Pavement Design Report Road

Internel Roads_Sludge Drying Bed_(SDB)

1. INTRODUCTION

The internal road network proposed for the Sludge Drying Bed (SDB) for the wastewater tre
at Gohagoda is implement under the Kandy city wastewater management project. These
construct as new road on the filling height more than 1m according to the Sludge Drying Bed
Design life of the project is 15 years. The traffic of the road will not be changed during the des
much traffic data is provided. The material properties of the filling to be checked and verify
under the material propeties before commencement of the road pavement layer construction.

This report contains the pavement design of Asphalt Concrete Surface with Dense Graded A
Base for the road section other the road section where spill of diesel or chemicals is likely to o
shall be provided complete with curbs and drainage system in accordance with. The type of s
considering traffic demand and construction feasibility as given.

2. PAVEMENT INVESTIGATION

Filing is to be done using imported material and California Bearing Ration (CBR) value of the
for the Design. It is necessary to check the institu CBR value and 4day soaked CBR related to f
compacted fill) of the fill before commencement of road pavement layers. To determined t
Dynamic cone Penetration (DCP) test can be used and laboratory test to be carried out to
soaked CBR.

If the resultant CBR value is greater than the Assume value (8%), proposed pavement lay
applied over the fill.

The existing layer thickness measured during the test pit investigation is summarize in Annex

3. TRAFFIC DATA

The data for Traffic forecasting is not available indetails and using the available data traffic for
According to the finding from specification, tipper truck with 10 ton will be travel once a day
staff will travel regularly in the internal road. This amount is less MSA value than the 0.3 x 10^
lowest trafict class given in the road note 31 and hence T1 trafic class is used for the design.

6 CONSTRUCTION OF SHOULDERS & DRAINAGE

It is very essential to provide an efficient system of drainage throughout this road by way of cr
drainage structures; side drains lead-away drains etc.
