SmartPlant P&ID Integration with

Smart 3D: From Logical to

Physical Webinar Q&A

Q: Does auto-correlation accept many to many correlation?

A: No.

Q: Is the un-named nozzle correlation applicable to equipment other than pump?

A: No.

Q: Can auto-correlation handle drains or vents pipe-runs?

A: If drains, or vents pipe runs exist in P&ID then they can be handled by auto-correlation.

Q: Can i select all P&IDs and correlate automatically in Smart 3D?

A: Yes, but this is not recommended due to the performance impact and also because the results that will
be obtained could have a lot of ambiguities depending on the configuration of the model.

Q: Any auto-correlate with pipe component item tags?

A: Yes, as long as the pipe component tag is specified in the auto-correlation rules.

Q: Can you correlate one typical P&ID assembly to multiple Smart 3D objects?

A: Currently we support one to many correlation which means that one P&ID run can be correlated with
multiple 3D runs.

Q: Can I incrementally retrieve - for lines routing, instrument placement, component placement,
and update properties, etc?

A: You will be retrieving form the design basis so whatever latest version was published into SmartPlant
Foundation will be available for you to retrieve. If the question is asking whether or not incomplete P&ID’s
can be retrieved, the answer is yes as long as they get published into SmartPlant Foundation.

Q: How does Auto Correlate identify the correct P&ID?

A: It does this based on pipeline selection.

Q: Does Auto Correlate take into account newer revisions of a specific P&ID?

A: Auto-correlation takes into account whichever P&ID version was retrieved last into Smart 3D.

Q: Our reason for not using is the fact it is very time consuming to fill data and do correlations.
We feel it is difficult to maintain such a complex system through the engineering path more that
yellowing and going manually through revision.

A: Thanks for the feedback.

SmartPlant P&ID Integration with Smart 3D: From Logical to Physical Webinar Q&A

Q: What about updating process between new versions, how does it work? For example, let's say
there is a change in a previously tagged item?

A: If there is a change, then the mismatch will be shown in the compare design basis.

Q: Is there a work process guide to create a new project based on another project integrated?

A: We have the capability statements (swim lanes) on Smart Support that will outline work processes
examples.

Q: What about unnamed nozzles on other equipment besides pumps. Does this new feature work
there too?

A: No.

Q: How can we get more information on how the correlation works?

A: Help guides, Smart Support, Training.

Q: How do we get more info on Basic Integrator?

A: Basic Integrator facilitate the interfaces between the SmartPlant and Partner Solution just as
SmartPlant I Foundation with the exception of the document, revision management, workflows support
etc. See the SmartPlant I Foundation information on our web site.

Q: Is Design basis viewer only for viewing P&ID design basis or for other documents as well? Like
Cable Schedule. DDP etc.? Can it be configured to have access to a specific user group?

A: DB viewer is for viewing all design basis documents, P&ID, SmartPlant Electrical, and SmartPlant
Instrumentation. It cannot be configured to have access to specific group.

Q: Does this capability exist in the deliver applications or does it require another module?

A: Design basis viewer is delivered with Smart 3D Version 2014 onwards.

Q: Is there any way to do this without SmartPlant Foundation?

A: No either SmartPlant I Foundation or SmartPlant I Basic Integrator.

Q: What is MDR (Model Data Reuse)?

A: Model Data Reuse is a capability that allows users to re-user large portions of their model in different
locations.

Q: Our challenge with using SmartPlant P&ID/Smart 3D integration is due mostly to the fact that
our P&IDs are designed at the same time as the 3D model and we have found it difficult to modify
work processes to effectively correlate in a timely manner. (i.e. 3D must be issued at some IFR
level but P&ID process data is not complete as the focus is on equipment specification and
ordering and not piping process.

A: Thanks for the feedback.

Q: How does Intergraph address solving this type of issue? Our 3D folks don't want to repeatedly
revisit the model every time SmartPlant P&ID data is updated.

SmartPlant P&ID Integration with Smart 3D: From Logical to Physical Webinar Q&A

A: Even in the manual world the 3D model has to be revisited and checked against the P&ID when
updates occur. We make it in fact easier to find the delta’s between the 3D model and the P&ID.

Q: Are custom properties added to the SmartPlant P&ID data me available for correlation with the
Smart 3D data model?

A: Yes.

Q: Our biggest issue is deleted in SmartPlant P&ID and recreated with same tag. How do you
resolve this in Smart 3D without deleting it?

A: With auto correlation this works. The system will first look for the object ID and second (if it cannot find
it) the item Tag.

Q: This constant changing is undermined with deletion/recreate on SmartPlant P&ID objects. We

need to be able to evaluate a deleted object based on UID is same object based on tag before
removing. Not practical to un-correlate load and re-correlate!

A: See above.

Q: This is a show stopper for early integration.

A: See above.

Q: Where can I read the details about this P&ID to 3D integration - from the 3D help docs or P&ID
help docs?

A: Help guides, Smart Support, Training.

Q: Does Smart 3D Design Basis Viewer require SmartPlant Foundation?

A: No.

Q: What is the custom command for bulk de-correlation?

A: Please file a support request to get this answered.

Q: What information shows the Design Basis Viewer? The information from the SmartPlant P&ID
database, or it is information loaded in Smart 3D?

A: Information loaded into Smart3D.

Q: What versions of SmartPlant P&ID can I use with this?

A: See Smart Support website > Compatibility matrix.

Q: What kind of parameters on those nozzles?

A: Need some clarification on this question.

Q: Does the revision of the P&ID have to be created, or can I retrieve versions?

A: You can retrieve versions from SmartPlant Foundation.

SmartPlant P&ID Integration with Smart 3D: From Logical to Physical Webinar Q&A

Q: You explained what happened with nozzles without tags on pumps, but what will happen, with
piping valves without tags?

A: piping valves get correlated based on other parameters such as NPD, Name, other specified and
configured attributes.

Q: When we did 2d/3d integration with PDS it all started out OK - but the downstream maintenance
proved problematic - at the end of the job there were no more hours to maintain the links so
things "started to break"

A: Thanks for the feedback

Q: Is it true that this integration is without use of SmartPlant Foundation?

A: No it is with either SmartPlant I Foundation or SmartPlant I Basic Integrator.

Q: can I correlate specific tags with custom properties as criteria of correlation?

A: If you mean to say can you correlate tagged objects by also specifying other attributes, then the
answer is yes.

Q: Does Design Basis viewer also show data from SmartPlant Instrumentation/SmartPlant
Electrical, or does it only show P&ID data?

A: Yes it shows data from SmartPlant Instrumentation and SmartPlant Electrical as well.

Q: Can remove correlation be done in bulk, or there are scripts available to do that?

A: Yes, please file a support request to get these questions answered.

Q: What version of each software is required?

A: See Smart Support website > Compatibility matrix.

Q: Does the new SmartPlant Process Engineer tool provide the capability to produce intelligent
PFD's (process flow diagrams)? With intelligent input from mass balance software?

A: It does, the product in in early stages of development and more information of the scope of the first
version will be released at the Hexagon 2015 event in Las Vegas.

Q: What is the estimated launch time for SmartPlant Process Engineer?

A: Estimate the first version in about 2 years.

Q: Are this enhancements available in 2014 R1 RTM? Or do we need to install a specific HF?

A: All shown enhancements are available in 2014 R1.

Q: The design basis instrument value was blank, why is this?

A: Because the design basis instrument did not have a name.

Q: Can you now perform correlation based upon instrument tags, as suggested in the
screenshots of the 3D auto-correlation dialog?

SmartPlant P&ID Integration with Smart 3D: From Logical to Physical Webinar Q&A

A: Yes.

Q: Is there support for custom property schema mapping for correlation between SmartPlant P&ID
and Smart 3D?

A: Please file support request for more details on this.

Q: Are there plans to maintain correlation during MDR?

A: No.

Q: Which software do i need to interface the correlation?

A: You need of course SmartPlant I P&ID and Smart3D plus either SmartPlant I foundation or SmartPlant
I Basic Integrator.

Q: Do we have to discard our processes and jump into this technology instead of modifying first?

A: We need to clarification on this question.

Q: Many owners are including this kind if validation on their project execution requirements.

A: T hanks for the feedback.

Q: Which module of SmartPlant Foundation is required?

A: See Smart Support website > Compatibility matrix.

Q: Is it necessary to do a mapping properties process between applications and SmartPlant

Foundation before we start the correlation?

A: No.

Q: How do I convince managers to use this?

A: Savings of hours in checking the model against the P&ID and the reduced chance on errors.

Q: It is possible to correlate with other P&ID tools?

A: No it only works with SmartPlant I P&ID.

Q: Can we set any notifications for the changes done (e.g. modification, deletions, and updates)
for disciplines?

A: I believe you can do this through SmartPlant Foundation, by sending e-mail notifications. Please file a
support request to get this answered.
