Lesson Plan

Name: Aja Penny Grade Level: 1 Date: 3/19/2019 Group Size: 1

Subject/Lesson Topic: Skip counting by 10’s

Objectives: The student will understand the concept of skip counting by 10s and will be able to
skip count by 10 starting at various numbers

CCSS Standards: CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.1.NBT.A.1

-Number and Operations in Base 10
Extend the counting sequence.
1. Count to 120, starting at any number less than 120. In this range, read and
write numerals and represent a number of objects with a written numeral.

Contextual Factors: When planning the lesson contextual factors such as child’s ability to skip
count relative to their age and development were considered.

Teacher Materials/Resources:
 100’s chart
 mini erasers
 laptop to record
 teacher created skip count worksheet

Student Materials/Resources:
 pencil

Technology Integration: Include technology in the lesson, if possible.

Pre-Assessment: When reviewing the student’s interview, I observed the student’s hesitance to
skip count by 10s, starting at 22, past 102. Therefore, I have decided to use this tutoring session
to enhance the students understanding of skip counting by tens starting at various numbers

Lesson Procedure and Activities:

a. Warm-up activity: The warm up activity chosen for this lesson includes a 100’s chart
and mini reward erasers. The child will be asked to skip count by 10’s starting at various
numbers and will place a reward eraser on top of each number in the sequence. This will
allow the student to visually see the pattern that skip counting makes.
1. Skip count by 10’s starting at 10
2. Let’s try skip counting by 10 starting at 5
3. What about skip counting by 10 starting 46
4. Try skip counting by 10 starting at 22
5. Skip count by 10 starting at 13
 During the actual teaching of the lesson I asked follow up questions, when the child ran out
of numbers on the 100’s chart I asked questions pertaining to what number would come
next. For example; “What comes after 95?” and ect.

b. Activities: For the student, I have created an original worksheet with four number lines
consisting of five numbers each with some of their numbers missing. The student will
look at the number lines and insert the correct number to complete the number line. All
the number lines are skip counting by 10 however they start at various numbers. The
student will need to understand skip counting by 10’s to complete the following the
sequences; 24, 34, 45, 54, 64; 92, 102, 112, 122, 132; 5, 15, 25, 35, 45; and 86, 96, 106,
116, 126. The numbers I have italicized and bolded are the numbers missing from the
number sequences that the student will need to insert themselves.

c. Closure: I will go over the worksheet and ask the student to explain how they knew
what numbers belonged in the sequences.

1. How did you know that these numbers went in the blank boxes?
2. Do you see a pattern?
3. What did all these numbers have in common?

Formative Assessment/Evaluation: I will determine that the objective was met if the student
correctly filled in 9 of the 10 missing numbers.
