Observing the sticker

1.1. What do you see on the sticker?

On this fairly large, round sticker we see an African

woman with a long skirt. She is standing with her back to
the viewer. She is holding a stick with a disco ball on it. In
front of her is seaweed and a fish. Behind and under her
tropical plants and flamingos. The background is white
and at the bottom we read 'brikabrak'. This is not a Dutch
word.

1.2. Where did the sticker hang? (indicate on the map)

2. Searching for the sticker:

2.1. Possible website, Facebook-page, etc.:

First I looked up a translation of the word 'brikabrak', it's Haitian for 'cozy'.
When we type the word 'brikabrak' on Google, we immediately find the
following website:
http://chase.be/blog/brikabrak-feesten-ten-voordele-van-congolese-
straatkinderen/ .
On the website we find a link to a Facebook event:
https://www.facebook.com/events/532156300462648/

2.2. What is the meaning of the sticker?

This explanation can be found on the website: "Brikabrak is a brand new party
concept in Brussels that raises money for charity, started by Beatsforbeaches
and Chase employee Yooth. All proceeds of this edition go to Orper, a
Congolese-Belgian charity that wants to put street children on the right track
by offering them shelter, food and education."

On the website we also see a date: 24.11.2017. The event took place in
Brussels. The sticker is therefore an advertisement for the event and points to
the organisations based in Brussels (perhaps also an advertisement for the
organisations themselves?).

2.3. Who hung them there? Is this an organisation/person... from

Brussels?

We arrive at the website of Chase, this organisation describes itself as follows:

"Chase is a group of urban digital creators. We make videos, photos, articles
and social stories on urban music, lifestyle, creatives and society". So it really
is an organisation that is actively involved in urban life. It is an organisation
that is active in three cities: Hasselt, Brussels and Ghent.
2.4. What track, what form of life?

In my opinion, the sticker is therefore a trace of cultural, musical and youth life
in Brussels.
1. Observing the sticker

1.1. What do you see on the sticker?

This rather large, round sticker we read "Ouvrons les yeux

sur les centres fermés" and "Point Barre". The
background is black. At the bottom we see references to 3
different forms of social media. We also found this sticker
pictured on beer cards.

1.2. Where did the sticker hang? (indicate on the card)

2. Searching for the sticker:

2.1. Possible website, Facebook-page, etc.:

At the bottom of the sticker we see references to 3 different forms of social

media, so it is interesting to look them all up:

2.2. What is the meaning of the sticker?

The sticker is the expression of six students who want to make people aware
of a sensitive subject: the imprisonment of undocumented migrants in closed
centres. They also make videos (on youtube) and try to raise awareness about
the issue. People can follow up on them via various social media channels and
thus stay informed about their project.

2.3. Who hung them there? Is this an organisation/person... from

Brussels?

Six students in Brussels want to raise awareness about a sensitive issue and
they are against the detention of undocumented migrants in closed centres.
Raising awareness through various social media channels. They also want to
raise money to really take action themselves, e.g. to buy essential items and
food for refugees. They work together with a school and two refugee
organisations.

2.4. What track, what form of (communal) life?

What is the route to living together with migrants/newcomers in Brussels, how

is/doesn't it? (+ track to the different organisations that deal with migrants and
thus also deal with the question of how we can live together).
What further steps can be taken?

Visiting the students of point barre or these two organisations, interviewing

them about the project, what influence they think it had on Brussels... This can
lead us to new forms of life...
