Chassis

PRELIMINARY OBJECTIVES:

1. To design and manufacture a Quad bike based on the

2018 Rulebook.

2. To design a lightweight and high strength roll-cage that

can withstand and heavy loads.

3 To design a good design for driver safety

Roll cage -:
The frame was designed on the main basis to withstand the terrain loads ,
torsional , bump loads and light in weight The loads acting upon the roll cage is transferred in a
uniform way that gives much stability to the driver. The roll cage is able to absorb all the loads acting
upon it and shares the loads acting in a proper manner The Roll cage is designed in the
SOLIDWORKS and the analysis for that roll cage is also made in the SOLIDWORKS itself
MATERIAL SELECTION AND PROPERTIES:
We know that the strength of a component depends on the
three main properties:
Cross sectional area of the material.
Young’s modulus of the material.
Thickness of material.

The minimum requirement of the material has been specified in rulebook. Therefore,
material have specified important role in building a chassis roll cage. The material chosen for
quad bike is AISI 4130 ANNEALED STEELwhich has high strength and toughness as well as
availability. The dimensions of the chassis are 25.4mm diameter and 2mm thickness
The properties of the materials are compared below
