a way that we best allows others the chance to gain a better understanding of our point of view.
Personally, I have always had a hard time trying to eloquently explain a topic or objective to
someone in person, as I often find it difficult to thoroughly describe what I am trying to say
when my audience has different sentiments or outlooks on the matter. This is the beauty of
formal writing, as it is often easier to consistently reach a desired result when you are given time
to alter or reflect on what you have proposed, and this allows us to better construct our argument
in order to have a more intimate and personal connection with the reader. Many times, it is
necessary to focus on a particular variety of people to fully achieve a message’s intended impact,
as some groups may be less susceptible to certain forms of argument and it is often not possible
to effectively accommodate the opinion of a larger group when each class may have differing
views. In order to ensure our writing achieves its desired impact on the reader, it is important to
be thoroughly knowledgeable of your target audience when trying to persuade a group, as this
allows us to serve their tastes and preferences in attempt to easier persuade them to an desired
idea or decision. Though this may limit our argument scope in terms of effectiveness on other
people different from our intended target audience, it also allows us to better reach and cater to a
particular group, which will ultimately result in a greater impact on this targeted demographic.
When constructing a formal argument, I often find it helpful to create a mental picture of the
points I am going to make and why they will be important to those reading it, as this allows us to
think from a different point of view and better construct our writing to be an effective argument.
