Abstract

Low bandgap composites of conjugated polymers with factionalize MWCNTs are

prepared that show promise towards achieving high power conversion efficiency of
organic solar cell. The MWCNTs are fictionalized by acid treatment method. The
conjugated polymers and co-polymers are prepared through in-situ polymerization
of monomers by using FeCl 3 and K2Cr2O7 as oxidizing agents. The nanocomposites
of PANI, PPy, PTh, PANI/PPy, PANI/PTh,PPy/PTh, PANI/PPy/PTh, ODA/TPC,
DAP/TPC, DAE/TPC and MDA/TTD with MWCNTs are also prepared through
solution mixing method. The In-depth analysis of the pristine and composite
products is made using different characterization techniques. FTIR analysis of
PANI/MWCNTs, PANI/PPy/MWCNTs, PANI/PPy/PTh/WMCNTs and
MDA/TDD/MWCNTS shows all the functional groups and consistency of the
polymer nanocomposites. The surface morphology study of DAE/TPC/MWCNTs,
MDA/TDD/MWCNTs and PPy/PTH/MWCNTs shows the dispersion of
MWCNTs in the polymer matrix. Self-organized MWCNTs bundle were observed
which indicates that nanotubes were homogenously dispersed. The direct bandgap
energies of PTh/MWCNTs, PPy/PTh/MWCNTs and MDA/TDD/MWCNTs were
lowered up to 1.6 eV,1.15 eV and 1.42 eV respectively. The nanocomposites
MDA/TDD/MWCNTs, PANI/PTh/MWCNTs, PANI/PPy/MWCNts and
PPy/MWCNTs shows higher thermal stability when loaded with nanotubes. In the
thesis, current understandings of mechanisms that rule the photocurrent creation
steps and define seek for alternate materials and device structure, have been
focused. Foremost research efforts must focus cell efficiency improvement to
speed up new material commercialization.
