SYNOPSIS:
The Internet of Things has evolved due to the confluence of multiple technologies. An ever growing
number of physical objects are being connected to the Internet at an unprecedented rate realizing the idea
of Internet of Things (IoT). This course covers important areas of IoT including technologies, architectures,
protocols and security used in IoT.
Day 1 of the course provides an overview of the Internet of Things with emphasis on enabling
technologies, protocols and applications. Day 2 will be devoted to the discussion of some of the critical
security issues that arises in IoT and its solutions, as well as the setting up of a small scale IoT network for
domotics.

DR CHRISTIAN CALLEGARI received the B.E. and M.E. degrees in Telecommunications Engineering and the
Ph.D degree in Information Engineering from the University of Pisa, Pisa, Italy, in 2002, 2004, and 2008,
respectively. He was a recipient of a PhD Scholarship issued by the Italian Ministry of Education.
Currently he is a researcher at the RaSS (Radar and Surveillance Systems) National laboratory of CNIT and a
teaching assistant at the University of Pisa. He has delivered professional courses on anomaly detection,
network security, and statistical traffic classification (both at national and international level) and he has
also given several international tutorials about networking and network security in leading international
conferences. His research interests are in the area of network security and monitoring. He has co-authored
more than 80 journal and conference papers and he is editor of the book LNCS 7754 (Springer, 2013).
This course is primarily meant for practising engineers and IT professionals who are involved in the
employment of IoT and Big Data solutions to improve the operational efficiency of their organisations.
Participants will benefit from the in-depth coverage of the various aspects of IoT deployment, in particular,
the security issues.
