ABSTRACT

The relationship between maternal employment status factor with giving

exclusive breastfeeding in infants which 6-12 months old in the Puskesmas
Bangsal, Kabupaten Bojonegoro 2017, Department of Medical Education, Faculty

The benefits of exclusive breastfeeding was very remarkable. Status of

mothers who work or doesn’t work can be influenced in exclusive breast feeding
for her baby, disturbing growth and declining skills. The data above indicate that
the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding Puskesmas Bangsal was still far below the
target of 25%. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship
between maternal employment status factor with giving exclusive breastfeeding in
infants which 6-12 months old in the Puskesmas Bangsal, Kabupaten Bojonegoro.
This study was observational analytic with cross sectional approach. Entire study
population mothers with infant which 6-12 months old in the Puskesmas Bangsal,
Kabupaten Bojonegoro with a sample of 48 respondents were taken by simple
random sampling. The independent variable is employment status, while the
dependent variable is exclusive breastfeeding. Data analysis using chi-square test
with significance level (α = 0.05). The results showed that respondents who
exclusively breastfed majority (83.3%) did not work. While respondents were not
exclusively breastfed almost half (41.7%) did not work, and (36.1%) worked
outside the home. The results of chi-square test, P = 0.018 obtained <α = 0.05 so
that H0 is rejected it means there is a relationship between maternal employment
status factor with giving exclusive breastfeeding in infants which 6-12 months old
in the Puskesmas Bangsal, Kabupaten Bojonegoro. It can be concluded that the
mother does not work likely to provide exclusive breastfeeding than working
mothers. It is expected that working mothers remain be able to breastfeed
exclusively, by squeezing exclusive breastfeeding and prepare it in a jar to give
the baby while the mother works outside home.
