SENIOR PROJECT SELF-EVALUATION

Directions: Utilize this worksheet to help evaluate yourself and your project. Be as complete
and descriptive as possible. This self-evaluation should give the scoring team and your teacher a
clear picture of what you accomplished in your project.

Name - Nadia Farashahi Project Start Date – January 30, 2019

Title of Project - Combating Workplace Sexual Harassment through Awareness

Project Completion Date - March 23

1. In 40 words or more describe who your project benefited and how. In other words, what was the
impact of your project? Be specific.

Sexual harassment in the workplace takes place everyday, yet it is a problem that has yet ot be
stopped. I wanted my project to shed light on this issue and inform people about it, with the hopes that
awareness will lead to prevention. My project not only benefitted the teeangers that attended my seminar,
but the future working generation. The teenagers that came to my seminar were able to have a new
perspective on workplace and sexual harassment and leave with an abundance of information about it.
This will eventually help the future generation of workers because these teens will be apart of this
generation and be able to help prevent it.

2. In at least 40 words explain how the project challenged you. How was this a stretch for you? Be
honest. If it was not really a stretch for you, explain why you chose not to take the opportunity to
challenge yourself.

From start to finish, I was being challenged by this project and what it required of me. This
project pushed me to have a lot of responsibility in ways I had not experienced before. It was nerve
wracking for me to contact professionals in the community by myself and organize an entire seminar. I
have always been so used to my parents or another adult making the phone calls, writing the emails, or
having conversations for me. However, I had no parents or adults to do that for me during this project.
3. List and then describe 5-8 fundamental ideas/concepts/skills of your project, which you
learned/enhanced during your project. If you cannot think of 5-8, just list and describe what you
can.

1. Communicating with professionals- This is a skill that I learned a lot throughout my project.
From the interview for my paper to securing public speakers I had to be able to properly reach out
to community professionals. I learned what is proper to say in an email/phone call and when it is
appropriate to have more casual conversations with someone. Towards the end of my project I
handled communicating with my guest speakers very well and they really contributed a lot to my
seminar
2. Use of Media/Advertising for events- I have never had an event in the past that I had to get
people to come to. I had to learn how to utilize social media and flyers to try to gather an
audience to attend my seminar. I texted and contacted a large amount of people to inform them
about my project, while I also created flyers and posted them around the school. I learned that it is
best to post flyers in places where students have the time to read them, like bathrooms and
classrooms (not hallways)
3. Responsibility/Being organized- In order to be on charge of everything for my project I had to
enhance my organization skills and learn to be more responsible. I was juggling a lot of different
tasks at the same time and it was a challenge but I mastered it eventually. I had to stay in contact
with my consultant, secure guest speakers, prepare for my seminar presentation, create flyers,
etc., in a timely manner over those few weeks.
4. Handling issues by myself- Lots of things in life have been handled by my parents, not myself.
But this project was completely run by me and I had to be able to handle any task or issue by
myself. When I realized I had too short of a time reserved for the meeting room I had to extend it.
I ran into issues regarding one of my speakers answering my emails so I called her office myself
and left a message for her.
5. Presentation skills- The academy has helped to significantly improve my presentation skills and
proper public speaking. This project has helped to enhance these skills even more. I gave a small
introduction powerpoint to my audience which I felt I did well at and I also introduced my
speakers. I wore proper professional attire and made sure everything was

4. List and describe 4-8 problems/obstacles/issues you encountered in your project, and briefly
describe how you solved each. If you cannot think of 4-8, just list and describe what you can. If
you did not solve the problem, then tell why.

1. Not Hearing From Speaker- I started to prepare in case my speaker could not make it or did not
show up. I planned out an activity to fill in that gap and I also looked for any possible last minute
speakers to take her place just in case.
2. Technical Issues at Seminar- Even though I went a couple days before to set up my technology
and see how the process went, during the end of my seminar I had a small technological error.
The TV screen that had the backdrop with my speakers name turned off, but I continued on and it
did not make a difference
3. Getting an Audience- The topic of workplace sexual harassment does not immediately excite
teenagers, so I had to work on getting an audience. I put lots of posters around school, talked to
friends/family friends, and got my seminar to be considered a master class to attract academy
students.
4. Preparing what to Do- To run a seminar requires a plan and a schedule of events. I had to figure
out how I wanted things to happen and what was going to occur. Once I figured this out I had to
figure out what I needed to prepare, make, set up, etc.

5. List all people who helped you on the project and briefly describe the help given.

1. Ms. Van Schenck- Ms. Van Schenck was very helpful throughout the entire process. Whenever I
had a problem or question she was always there to give me advice and helpful information. She
helped me think of a last minute activity to do to fill a gap when there was a chance my speaker
was not going to come.
2. Mr. Hodges- Mr. Hodges was a very good consultant. He acknowledged my hard work while
also giving me his own advice. He even gave me a suggestion on a speaker to contact towards the
beginning of my project.
3. Mr. Rohani-Shukla- Mr. Rohani-Shukla was one of my guest speakers; he is a employment law
attorney. He was very good at emailing me back if I had any questions and he gave a great
presentation
4. Ms. Vann- Ms. Vann was one of my guest speakers; she is the human resource manager for
Dome Technologies. Her presentation was very interesting and she even brought along one of her
coworkers with her.
5. Mary Farashahi- Mary Farashahi, my mother, was very helpful throughout the project. She gave
me advice along the way and was a big part in getting food for my seminar, as well as helping to
set up beforehand.
6. Ms. Disher- Ms. Disher was helpful because she allowed my project to be a master class which
allowed to have some extra people attend

6. How does your completed project compare to the picture you had in mind when you started the
project? Explain the reason behind any changes from your proposal.

My completed project, I can honestly say, exceeded the expectations that I had when I
started my project. I did have some minor changes from the original vision that was laid out; I was
originally only supposed to target males to come to my seminar (because statistically they are the
ones that commit workplace sexual harassment the most). However, I realized if I wanted to get an
adequate number for my seminar, I expanded this to all teenagers since this is the next generation to
enter the workforce. My seminar basically followed out how I planned it in my proposal, but it ran
more smoothly than I thought it would.
7. If given the opportunity, explain what you would have done differently now that you speak from
experience?
The one thing I would have done differently is maybe add another component to my project.
I would still do the seminar, because I feel this was very successful, but I could also do another
activity. This can include making a video and showing it to a group of people. I also would have
picked a bigger and more comfy venue for my seminar, since I felt it was a little packed in that small
meeting room.

8. Beyond the project itself, what did you learn about yourself? What did you get out of the
experience in terms of personal growth?
To run an entire seminar by myself would have seemed almost impossible before this year,
but I did this exact thing. I learned that I am capable of more than I thought; I can be organized and
self-sufficient. I learned that I don’t always need an adult to help me with things like contacting
professionals or other adults, and that is a skill I will take in stride in the long run. Public speaking is no
longer a giant fear of mine, and this is an important skill that I will need for life. I can stand in front of
audiences and not let my public speaking skills hinder the words that I am trying to convey to my
audience.

9. Reflecting on the total amount of time and effort that you put into this opportunity, and reflecting
on the overall quality of the final product, what grade would you give yourself on the project? Be
honest with yourself! Justify the evaluation of your grade in at least 25 words.
Grade: A-

Justification: I thought my project was a success in that my audience really learned a lot and were
able to take home knowledge about workplace sexual harassment. I was organized and prepared
and everything pretty much ran how I wanted it to go.
