What is Brain and
Behavioral Studies?
Brain and behavioral sciences are the more
scientific side of psychology. It combines
behavioral neuroscience, the application of
the principles of biology to the study of
physiological, genetic, and developmental
mechanisms of behavior in humans and
animals, with the more traditional aspects of
psychology such as memory, thinking, and
motivation in humans and animals.
A degree in this major is applicable to jobs in
business, psychology, healthcare and social
services.
Classes you can expect to take in this major
are things such as
PSY 32400 Introduction to Cognitive
Neuroscience
PSY 43400 Neurobiology of Disease
PSY 48400 Psychology of Consciousness
Is This Major for You?
Brain and Behavioral Sciences deals with a lot
of human interaction and people skills. There
is also a lot of science and investigation
involved. If you have taken the SDS and have a
high score in the social (S) category or
Investigative (I) category, this major might be
a good fit for you. Also, on the MBTI test,
Extroversion (E) and Intuition (N) are helpful
traits to have but not necessary to succeed in
this major. This major requires lots of talking
to people and you have to be able to see
patterns in behavior and see the big picture.
CODO Requirements
Switching into Brain and Behavioral Sciences is
actually fairly easy! Health and Human
Sciences has a requirement of one semester
and 12 credit hours completed at Purdue and
the only additional requirement by
Psychological Sciences is a minimum GPA of
2.25 there are no course requirements or
application pools for this major.
NOTE**
Students on academic probation are not eligible
to CODO into Health and Human Sciences

Information
Since a degree in Brain and Behavioral
Sciences is so versatile, you can get a job in
almost any field, but most graduates get jobs
in business, healthcare, social services, or
laboratories. Health and Human Sciences is
very proud to have a website called “Where

Services and Laboratory Manager at Purdue.
Its not uncommon for Brain and Behavioral
students to go to graduate school. On the
same website as listed above, you can see a
list of what Purdue graduates in this field are
currently studying in graduate school. Because
it is such a versatile degree, past students are
studying everything from Human Resource
Management, to Medicine, to Forensic
Psychology. In this major, you truly can choose
your own path.
