Artificial Intelligence was a term that was created by a group of scholars in the 1950s.

The
Dartmouth Summer Research Project on Artificial Intelligence (DSRPAI), was the conference
when a group of men created the first AI program in 1956, and the father of Ai John McCarthy
defined Ai. His definition of Ai was a computer that could replicate human interaction in a way
that would make a human think that they are talking to a human, not an Ai computer program. Ai
was further developed, and it led to a point where Ai computers began to learn. This is when the
term Ai was completely changed. Ai now is a computer that can replicate the thinking process
that occurs inside the neocortex, and interact like a human. What this means is Ai computer
programs not only talk and interact with humans in a way that would replicate human interaction,
but it also can think like a human would.
During this time a program created by Allen Newell, Cliff Shaw, and Herbert Simons
changed the world. The reason why this change the world is because it was the first Ai program
to ever be written. The program was called Logic Theorist and it mimicked the problem solving
skills found in humans. The reason why this was important is because this, in 20 years would
lead to the creation of machine learning. The reason why Mr. McCarthy is considered the Father
of Ai is because he was the one who invited the people to the DSRPAI, and he also would
envision the future of Ai.
Machine Learning or ML is a type of AI that revolutionized the AI industry. Machine
learning Ai is a subsection of Ai that is programmed with algorithms. The ML computer can
change its algorithms to help it become better at the task that was given to it. In the year 1957
Frank Rosenblatt created the first neural network that could be used to mimic the thinking
process inside the neocortex. Ten years later a new algorithm called the Nearest Neighbor was
written, and this created the backbone of pattern recognition for Ai. Gerald Dejong in 1981
created the concept for Explanation Based Learning (EBL) that was used for Ai programs to
create a general rule, that would make it possible for the Ai to figure out what data is important,
and get rid of the rest of the data.
This would lead up to the first talking ML Ai called NetTalk. NetTalk was created by a man
named Terry Sejnowski in 1985, and it learned how to speak in a way that a human baby would.
ML hit its all time high when IBM created their deep blue computer, and it beat the world’s best
chess player in 1997. This showed how powerful ML had gotten, and this led to the creation of
even more Ai programs. In 2006 Mr. Hinton created the term Deep Learning (DL), and he
described it as a computer that could see and distinguish objects and read text found in photos
and videos. This caused a birth of another subsection to the term Ai.
Deep learning is the other major breakthrough. It began 1989 when scientist were able to
create an algorithm that was able to be used in the real world, and it used deep neural networks.
In 1992 Jayang Weng created a program that could decipher 3D objects when 3D printing. In
2009 NIPS Workshop made a program that used voice recognition software, that would use
human speech as a data set. A data set as a large group of files that contain example problems
and solutions for an AI, and the AI uses the data to learn. In 2012 Artificial Pattern Recognition
(APR) algorithms were used on an AI, and the AI was able to discover cats by using its data sets.
In 2016 google made an AI that could beat the world’s best AlphaGO player. This showed how
powerful AI has become because AlphaGO is one thousand times harder than chess according to
Bernard Marr’s “A Short History of Machine Learning.
