The Kindergarten pre-assessment consisted of addition within 5.

It follows the standard

MGSEK.OA.5 Fluently add and subtract within 5. Before I gave the pre-assessment, I knew that
some students are able to add within ten because we have being talking about adding informal.
There are a total of 23 students in this kindergarten class. Only 21 students report is used
due to absent during one of the two tests. These students were given six addition problems
adding within 5. No objects or manipulatives were given to the students because I wanted to
observe how they were solve a problem on their own. The result for the pre-assessment is shown
below.

At a total of 21 students being tested, 8 of them scored less than 69%. Because of the
simplicity of the math problems, more students should have come close to a 90%. Many of the
students who fall under the 80%-89% had trouble with adding zero. Addition is a new concept
and this is their first time formally working with addition. After spending the whole week with
addition, using objects, and using fingers to add, I gave out the post test. The post test is shown
below. Students highlighted in yellow did not pass the first and second time. Even though there
are students who did not make a positive grade, their scores increased. One student remained the
same at a 83% average.
