Course Reflection
EDT 180 has been spent doing a lot of learning. Over the course of this semester, I have been

able to both learn new abilities, and practice old skills. I think I was successful in achieving the

course objectives and I think the course was successful in enabling me to achieve said objectives.

I was able to speak of computers, software, and technology with my classmates fluently and I

was able to first, learn, and then, demonstrate my ability to use computer applications in multiple

productive and efficient ways.

After completing this course, it is safe for me to say that I am able to approach new computer-

based tasks more easily and with greater confidence. Even though I have always been skilled

with using the computer, I admittedly did not know how to use Microsoft Excel to its full

potential. After spending a week in class on learning how to use it in personal and business-

oriented usages, I am confident in using it to conduct research and data analysis in an organized

and speedy way. This is definitely a skill that businesses want and need so I am glad to be able to

add this to my resume without any doubts.

Another goal that I have achieved in EDT 180 is my ability to demonstrate n understanding of

fundamental programming concepts using block programming. Before taking this class, I had

prior experience with basic programming. However, it had been so long and a lot of it was with

Flash—something not as prominent anymore in terms of software programming. With that being

said, I was extremely excited to learn how to do another form of programming. I had never done

block programming before and it was in such a format that it was simple and easy to understand.

I am very interested in programming, so I want to be able to take this knowledge further into my

personal hobbies. I hope that this grasp that I have obtained over fundamental coding will be able

to provide me with insight over my future projects.

Another important goal that EDT 180 has allowed me to reach is the ability to analyze and

discuss social and ethical issues related to the increased use of technology in education, business,

and society. This might sound a bit sad, but I really had no idea about some of these copyright

issues regarding the violation of using graphics and audio files in certain settings. I did not know

the difference between copyright, the fair use agreement, or the creative commons license. In

fact, I had not even known that the latter two were concepts. I find that learning about those two

concepts will really benefit me, especially in my continuing student career where I might take

lawful advantage of the fair use agreement and creative commons license. I also am really glad

to have learned about this because, even if I do not commit these violations, I am able to prevent

myself from doing so in the future. In addition, I am able to discuss these issues and understand

the reasoning for why others may receive consequences regarding these violations.

EDT 180 has been a learning process and its overall impact on my understanding of computer

technology and applications has been progressive. Thank you.
