New Butler Restaurant Invites Indy Community to Grand Opening

Blue Dawg Diner, a new restaurant continuing on-campus dining made by alumni for current
students

INDIANAPOLIS – A new restaurant comes to the campus of Butler University owned and
operated by Bulldog alumni. While these two Bulldogs may no longer be attending class at the
university, passion and love for the Dawg community inspired these two alumni to create Blue
Dawg Diner.

Blue Dawg Diner will celebrate its grand opening Saturday, April 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with
early menu sampling that includes special hot “dawgs,” cheese fries, salads, a selection of
made-from scratch pies, and special edition Blue Dawg Blueberry mini pies. The new restaurant
moved into the previously occupied Metro Diner in the 4700 block of Sunset Avenue. The
event welcomes students, alumni, and community members as well.

“We hope the opening event allows people to see the passion and pride we have for this
campus,” said Blue Dawg Diner employee and Butler Student John Doe. “We have so many fun
and exciting things planned for the attendees who already contribute so much to the
development of the Butler Community. This restaurant celebrates everything that Butler
University does for us students and embodies the Dawg mentality.”

The Blue Dawg Diner will serve favorite meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner as well as late-
night snacks. Every meal on the menu costs $10 or less keeping the mentality that this
restaurant is made for students and their needs. Keeping this mentality, the restaurant also
prides itself on student inclusion and opportunities. Students helped provide the design of the
diner, plan the menu, and create the special-edition pie recipe that will be handed out at the
event. The restaurant will donate a portion of the proceeds to Butler student travel
scholarships.

“As former students who benefited from Butler’s hands-on approach to learning, we wanted
to give current students access to real-world management experience," said Simone Paul, co-
owner of Blue Dawg Diner. "In addition to hiring student servers and delivery drivers, we have
students helping us manage and run the restaurant. They also benefit from the profits, which
contribute to travel scholarships that offer students opportunities to see and experience
places off campus."

The grand opening festivities will include appearances from the lovable mascot Trip, President
James Danko, and Indy driver Ted Barber. A timeline of events and other details regarding the
diner may be found on the company’s website at www.bluedawgdiner.com.

About Blue Dawg Diner

In March 2019, married Butler alums Terrence and Simone Paul launched Blue Dawg Diner.
Coming with extensive restaurant experience, the two welcomed the chance to open a place on
campus that could serve the Butler campus and neighboring community with healthy, made-
from-scratch diner favorites for breakfast, lunch and dinner. In keeping with Butler’s
commitment to experiential learning, the owners partnered with students to launch and run
the restaurant. A portion of the proceeds will support Butler student travel scholarships.
