Abstract - Along with the increasing needs and the
increasing use of networks that want a form of network
that can provide maximum results both in terms of
efficiency and increased security of the network itself.
Based on these desires, improvement efforts continue to
be made by various parties. The Dude is a network
monitoring software built from MikroTik. The Dude
provides some facilities to view active hosts on a network
and features a hosted image along with its network, as
well as other facilities such as ping, traceroute,
snmpwalk, scan, winbox, terminal, remote connection,
torch, bandwidth test, and so on. (Abstract)

I. INTRODUCTION
Advancements in technology today has spawned
a computer network system that can be maneuvered
in such a way by the admin. Various media
peripherals can be configured into one in a computer
networking order. Given the increasing number of
computer users are connected in a network, then the
thing to note in building a good network is Quality of
Services (QoS). Two points that determine the
quality of a network is the speed of access and
stability of the access, in the implementation
sometimes appear some common problems on the
network such as slow access speed and sometimes
unstable speed, to solve the above problems required
a network administrator whose job observe and keep
the network conditions always optimum.
Network monitoring is one of the functions of
management that is useful to analyze whether the
network is still feasible enough to use or need
additional capacity. Monitoring results as well can
help if the admin wants to redesign an existing
network. To do the monitoring we do not need to
bother because it is widespread in the internet
network that provides it for free. Many things in the
network can be monitored, one of which is load
network traffic passing on a router or computer
interface. Monitoring can be done by SNMP
standards, in addition to network load traffic, network
conditions must also be monitored, for example up or
down status of a network equipment.
According to (Widiyasono, 2009) said in his
journal "The Dude Network Monitoring is a tool to
monitor the activities of system and network
infrastructure, and in real-time will record every
activity that occurs on the device environment. With
this tool will help team fault handling in terms of
analyzing and determining the action or the next step.
II. LITERATURE REVIEW
1. The basic concept of networking
Computer Network is a collection of two or
more computers that are interconnected with
each other using communication protocols
through communication media (wired or
wireless), so that the computers can share
information, data, programs and the use of
hardware together (Fahlevi, 2014 )
2. WAN (Wide Area Network)
According to (Aditya, 2011), WAN (Wide
Area Network) is a collection of LAN and / or
Workgroup connected by using modem and
Internet network communication tools, from /
to head office and branch office, or between
branch offices. With this network system,
inter-office data exchange can be done quickly
and with a relatively low cost. This network
system can use an existing Internet network, to
connect between headquarters and branch
offices or with PC Stand Alone / Notebooks
located in other cities or countries. Example of
the WAN is the internet.
3. Topology
Network topology is a term used to describe
how computers connect in a network. Physical
topology describes the actual layout of
network hardware, while the logical topology
describes the behavior of computers on the
network from the point of view of its human
operator (brainware). (suarna, 2006)
4. Mikrotik
 According to (Widiyasono, 2009) MikroTik
RouterOS ™, is a Linux base operating system
that is designated as a network router.
Designed to suit all users. Administration can
be done through Windows Application
(WinBox). In addition the installation can be
done on Standard PC (Personal Computer).
PCs that will become mikrotik router does not
require a large enough resource for standard
use, for example, just as a gateway. For large
load requirements (complex network, complex
routing) it is advisable to consider the
selection of adequate PC resources.
5. The dude
As one easy alternative to monitoring,
Mikrotik create an application called The
Dude. With this application we can do our
network management network. The dude will
automatically read or detect any perangat
connected to the network that one segment. In
addition it can also compose from the design
of our network topology, and can perform
monitoring and provide information if there is
a problem on the devices that connect to our
network.
Until now the Dude is used by many users to
manage their network. Some of the reasons
why this application is in great demand are:
- The Dude is an unpaid app
- Easy installation and usage.
- Can do discovery & layout of various type
or brand of device automatically.
- Can perform remote directly to manage
the device.
- Supports SNMP, ICMP, DNS and TCP
monitoring
- Can run on Windows OS, Linux (Wine)
and MacOS (Darwine).
III. METHODOLOGY
The subjects in this study implements network
monitoring to improve network administrator
performance using the dude application from
mikrotik. The research was conducted in a research
laboratory. This research method uses various
methods of literature study, observation method, and
interview method. This study consists of several
stages, among others, system requirements analysis,
network analysis, user needs analysis and then
continued implementation of the system design. After
this research is done, then tested the results of
monitoring obtained. This test test uses validation
test. Based on the test results with validation test
method after applying the dude based monitoring
system obtained 50% stated strongly agree, while
42% states agree, and that states less agree as much
as 8%. Based on the results of a percentage it can be
concluded that the implementation of network
monitoring systems using the application The dude
monitoring in research laboratories run well so as to
optimize the performance of network administrators
or laboran in research laboratories to be better and
efficient.
IV. RESULT AND DISCUSSION
Not only LAN facilities that connect between
computers per floor in a building using a cable
intermediary, to use the system is developing a
wireless network or known as wireless LAN
(WLAN). the existence of this network facility which
is later expected to accelerate access to information
for employees. therefore required a monitoring
system to always monitor the performance in the
network in order to work with the optimal and
controlled. Disruption of computer network system
(networking) will cause obstacle of data
communication required, therefore need a good
Network monitoring and Management System
(NMS), to minimize troubleshooting that happened
and make network security system based on data
traffic monitored in real time
V. CONCLUSION
The application of network monitoring
technology is necessary to keep control and maintain
the existing resources used correctly and to become a
reference in determining the creation of network
security system. By installing Software The Dude
Monitoring on the network has been proven to
provide a simulation view that is quite easy to
understand other than it can access directly to the
MikroTik router and can provide reports about
network conditions in real time, so that if there is a
traffic jam on the network will be very quickly in the
know and handled.
