ADVANTAGES
" Extremely high wear resistance Thanks to its set of properties BÖHLER M398 MICROCLEAN can be
" High dimensional stability under heat treatment used to:
" check valves
" The high hardenability and strength under compressive> 60 HRC " Screw injection molding
" Tool inserts for injection molding
" good strength
" Good corrosion resistance " Extremely wear-resistant components
" good sandability " Cutting tools and blades
" excellent polishability
offer
" Long tool life, thus reducing downtime and maintenance costs
Benefits
" Productivity increase " Reducing the cost of the
component
ten
BÖHLER M398 VS. BÖHLER M390
" Because of the high number of primary carbides in M398 MICROCLEAN (about 30 vol.%) Toughness, wear resistance and compressive strength
significantly increased.
" However, the toughness is slightly lower in comparison with M390 MICROCLEAN.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR
HEAT TREATMENT
Accommodation for maximum corrosion resistance " Cold treatment for the conversion of
residual austenite
" Slow heating to tempering temperature
" Dwell time in the furnace 1 hour for each 20 mm of workpiece thickness but not less than 2 hours
" For information about the attainable hardness after the holidays, please refer to the tempering chart.
Holidays for maximum wear resistance " Recommended cold treatment or cryogenic
treatment
" Cold treatment immediately after quenching leads to an increase in temper hardness austenitizing at temperatures ≥ 1150 ° C, [risk of stress crack]
" To achieve complete conversion of residual austenite into martensite needs triple vacation at 20 ° C above the maximum secondary hardness.
