If cos 65° + cos 55° = cos 𝛳 , find 𝛳 𝑖𝑛 𝑟𝑎𝑑𝑖𝑎𝑛𝑠.

Solution:

Cos 65° + cos 55° = cos 𝛳

cos 𝛳 = 0.99619
2𝜋 𝑟𝑎𝑑𝑖𝑎𝑛𝑠
𝛳 = 5° 𝑥 360°
= 0.087 𝑟𝑎𝑑𝑖𝑎𝑛

In triangle ABC, angle A= 45° and C= 70°. The side opposite angle C is 40 m long. What is length
of the side opposite angle A?

Solution:

By sine law: 𝐶 = 70°

sin 𝐴 sin 𝐶
𝑎
= 𝑐

sin 𝐴
𝑎 = 𝑐 (sin 𝐶 ) 𝑎 =?

sin 45°
𝑎 = 40 (sin 70° ) = 30.1𝑚 A= 45°

𝑐 = 40𝑚

A regular triangular pyramid has an altitude of 9m and a volume of 187.06 cu.m. What is the base
edge in meters?

Solution:

𝑉 = 3 (2 𝑥 2 sin 𝛳) ℎ h=9m

Note: 𝛳 = 60°, since equilateral triangle.

Determine the distance from (5,10) to the line x – y = 0.

Solution:

The given line has the equation, x – y = 0.

Thus, A = 1, B = -1 and C = 0

The given point is at P(5,10).

Thus, 𝑥1 = 1 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑦1 = 3
