Self-defense has been used for over a century through feminists to guard their bodily
integrity and assert their right to citizenship. However, women’s resistance to

articles and books recognized, and findings synthesized. Policy development become
studied via searches on the Europa website, analysis of Member States Plans of
Action. A listing of manuals became generated, but those have been now not
analyzed as they are industrial merchandise no longer linked to the research below
review. No European minimum requirements or investment streams had been
identified.

CHAPTER-1
INTRODUCTION
Self-defense is an act of countermeasure and it entails protecting oneself from
damage and risk for health and nicely-being. In the prevailing, it has come to be very
vital to have self –protection equipment and strategies to guard oneself. According to
Indian Express article published on 21 Dec 2018, nearly 40,000 rapes were,
pronounced in 2016 in spite of a greater consciousness on women’s protection after
the fatal gang rape of a scholar in New Delhi in 2012 that sparked nationwide protests
and brought about harder legal guidelines towards sexual abuse.
Even some of the martial arts establishments are giving free education to the
workingwomen within the companies. Ministry of Women and Child welfare
Department is likewise taking projects to spread Defense Education across various
regions. Days are getting insecure and there may be a need for self-Protection. Many
humans argue that the statistical boom within the reports of crimes towards women
aren't merely the increase in crime however the frequency of reporting and figuring
out these cases has end up more. Mere growth or lower in the crimes against women
isn't count number but searching at the recorded facts human beings ought to be more
involved.
2
Types of Self-Defense
Physical
Physical protection is that the use of physical force to counter a right away threat of
violence. Such force may be either armed or unarmed. In either case, the possibilities
of success rely upon an outsized range of parameters, associated with the the severity
of the threat on one hand, however additionally on the mental and physical
preparation of the defender.
Unarmed
Many kinds of martial arts are practiced for self-defense or embody protection
techniques. Some designs train primarily for self-defense, whereas different martial
or combat sports may be effectively applied for protection. Some martial arts train a
way to break loose a knife or gun state of affairs, or a way to cut loose from a punch,
whereas others train a way to attack. To produce additional sensible protection,
several fashionable martial arts schools currently use a mix of martial arts designs and
techniques, and can usually customize self-defense training to suit individual
participants.
Armed
A wide kind of weapons will be used for self-defense. The foremost appropriate
depends on the threat given, the victim or victims, and therefore the expertise of the
defender. Legal restrictions additionally greatly influence self-defense choices.
3
be controlled, as might batons, pepper spray and private stun guns and Tasers -
though some could also be legal to hold with a license or certainly professions.
Mental
Mental self-defense is the capability to get into the proper mind-set for executing a
bodily self-protection technique. Many martial arts schools and self-defense
instructions consciousness mostly at the bodily nature of self-protection and
frequently forget about the intellectual aspect. If you are skilled inside the bodily
elements of a protective approach, but lack the intellectual sturdiness and tenacity to
execute it, you will now not be capable of carry out - particularly under duress.
Controlled environments cannot without difficulty mimic the pressure and adrenaline
unload which occurs at some stage in an attack. There is a totally real want so one can
enter the proper "warrior attitude" if one is to have a realistic threat of surviving a
probably lethal encounter. This warrior attitude is the capacity to awareness merely
on the successful outcome of a situation without turning into concerned with the
outcomes, even if they prove deadly in the dedicated pursuit of your desired final
results. The potential to move over, under, around or through any impediment is the
essence of this "in no way quit" mind-set - similar to that of the Samurai of Japan.
Self-preservation is a completely powerful motivator and it's miles critical for
ensuring that one has the mental durability and right mindset to emerge the victor in
an come upon with one or greater attackers/aggressors.
4
Other forms
Avoidance
Being aware of and heading off probably risky conditions is one beneficial technique
of self-protection. Attackers will generally pick out victims they sense they've an
advantage against, such as greater bodily length, numerical superiority or sobriety
versus intoxication. Additionally, any ambush scenario inherently places the defender
at a huge initiative downside. These elements make preventing to defeat an attacker
unlikely to be triumphant. When avoidance is impossible, one regularly has a better
risk at preventing to break out, such techniques were referred to as 'wreck away'
strategies. Understanding the 'attitude' of a capacity attacker is vital if we're to keep
away from or break out a doubtlessly lifestyles-threatening scenario.
De-escalation
Personal alarms
Personal alarms are a way to exercise passive self-defense. A private alarm is a small,
handheld tool that emits strong, loud, high-pitched sounds to discourage attackers due
to the fact the noise will from time to time draw the attention of passersby. Child
5
alarms can feature as locators or device alarms consisting of for triggering an alert
while a swimming pool is in use to help prevent risky situations in addition to being a
deterrent in opposition to might-be aggressors.
Self-defense education
6
The Indian Penal Code defines homicide in self-defense as a form of sizeable
right, and therefore, save and except the restrictions imposed on the right of
the Code itself, plainly the special rule of English Law as to the obligation of
chickening out will have no utility to this united states of America wherein
there's a real need for defending oneself in opposition to lethal attacks.
The right to shield one’s personal man or woman and belongings in opposition
to the unlawful aggressions of others is a proper inherent in guy. The
obligation of shielding the character and belongings of others is a duty which
man owes to society of which he's a member and the protection of that's both
his hobby and duty. It is, indeed, a duty which flows from human sympathy.
History of Self-Defense
Self-defense has prominence since ancient years. People are using self-defense
techniques to defend themselves. Asian countries like china, japan and Thailand
are very popular in martial arts.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
LITERATURE REVIEW
Literature review is an important step in any research study, and helps in building a
strong base for presenting any study. The literature published in the area helps in
avoiding duplicate research and confirms the steps carried out in research. Literature
review is an analysis of contributions made by others like authors, researchers,
experts including technical specialists. It is a presentation of growth and development
of literature in a particular field over a period, which is useful for the development of
the study. It suggests ideas based on the concepts developed by others. The very
purpose of a literature review is to understand the experimented methods, techniques
and skills of a phenomenon and its procedural presentation. This is believed to guide
the researcher to formulate and identify the objectives, hypothesis, methods for
collection and analysis of data. Literature review enables the researcher to restructure,
reorganize and recast the presentation in the light of work done at various levels.
Therefore, a literature review is considered as an integral part of research studies.

protocol.” Psychology of Women Quarterly 32(2): 204-218.
The current study extends the development and evaluation of an existing and
previously evaluated sexual assault risk reduction program with a self- defense
component for college women ( N= 300). The program protocol was revised to
address psychological barriers to responding assertively to risky dating situations, and
a placebo-control group was utilized rather than a wait- list control group. Relative to
the placebo-control group, the program was effective in increasing levels of self-
protective behaviors, self-efficacy in resisting against potential attackers, and use of
assertive sexual communication over a 4-month interim. Results also suggested
reduction of incidence of rape among program participants over the 2-month follow-
up. Implications for future development and evaluation of sexual assault risk
reduction programming are presented.
Mickenberg, K. (2008). Broad Attack. Psychology Today, Sussex Publishers
Inc. 41: 22-22.
An interview with Lana Stefanac, the four-time PanAm Gold Medalist in mixed
martial arts, is presented. Asked whom she coaches, she answers that she has a human
resource person, a nurse, a couple of doctors, a pornography star and a famous
person’s daughter. She explains that the phrase “win by submission,” means when
you got a person in a position where you could break his or her arm. She points out
that she is not a violent person.
Livingston, J. A., M. Testa, et al. (2007). “The reciprocal relationship between
sexual victimization and sexual assertiveness.” Violence Against Women 13(3):
298-313.
Low sexual assertiveness has been proposed as a possible mechanism through which
sexual revictimization occurs, yet evidence for this has been mixed. In this study,
prospective path analysis was used to examine the relationship between sexual refusal
assertiveness and sexual victimization over time among a community sample of
women. Results provide support for a reciprocal relationship, with historical
victimization predicting low sexual assertiveness and low sexual assertiveness
predicting subsequent victimization. The effect of recent sexual victimization on
subsequent sexual assertiveness also was replicated prospectively. These findings
16
suggest that strengthening sexual assertiveness may help reduce vulnerability to
future victimization.
Fisher, B. S., L. E. Daigle, et al. (2007). “Assessing the efficacy of the protective
action: Completion nexus for sexual victimizations.” Violence and Victims 22:
18-42.
Research has shown that protective actions are often used by rape victims, and some
actions, namely, forceful physical resistance, are more effective in preventing a
completed rape than other types of actions, such as nonforceful verbal resistance. The
research is less clear, however, on the extent to which women who are victims of
nonrape sexual victimization use protective measures and on the effectiveness of
these actions. There is also uncertainty on the nature of the relationship between
different types of protective actions, contextual characteristics, and the likelihood of
completion of nonrape sexual victimization incidents. To investigate these issues, we
used data from a national-level study of 4,446 female college students. Our results
indicate that the use of protective action varied across type of sexual victimization
and that the effectiveness of these actions on reducing the risk of a completed act is
differentially related to type of sexual victimization. The findings suggest the need for
sexual victimization prevention and education programs to include information
regarding the efficacy of protective actions in both rape and nonrape incidents.
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
We have heard and witnessed many incidents like sexual harassment, live robberies
and physical assaults in recent years. Due to such type of incidents corporate
employees are feeling unsecured while going alone late in the night and anywhere for
that matter, so there is a need to control these type of incidents. The main intention of
this study is to know the corporates expectations for providing safety and security to
their employees.
17
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
The report has been prepared based on information collected from various sources to
achieve the objectives of the project. Descriptive research is the best method to
achieve the objective and collection of Questionnaires. A Questionnaire was designed
which was gathering new ideas to determine and bind out solution to the problems.
DESCRIPTIVE RESEARCH
DATA SOURCE
PRIMARY DATA
Primary data is the most crucial to collect the data so as to know the concerned
corporate peoples view and expectations about self-defense products for in-house
distribution. Primary data is a fresh and collected by taking feedback from concerned
corporate people, which involved Questionnaire Method to collect the adequate data.
18
SECONDARY DATA
Secondary data are those, which have already been collected by someone else passed
through statistical process. Secondary data has been taken from internet, company
websites & news articles.
RESEARCH APPROACH
SURVEY METHOD
The research approach, which I have used is Survey method which is widely used
method for data collection and best suited for a descriptive type of research. This
research approach is common method of collecting primary method. Survey method
can provide data on attitudes, feelings, beliefs, behavior, knowledge and other
descriptive items. The survey research approach must be concerned with sampling,
Questionnaire design and Data analysis.
QUESTIONNAIRE METHOD
SAMPLING DESIGN
SAMPLE SIZE
19
SAMPLE METHOD
The limit of the study is up to 50 samples, it does not exceed more than that.
The population of the study is large, so it is not possible to take entire
responses, which is a burden and expensive task.

be corporate professionals. The survey was done with a sample size of 50
respondents. The respondents were questioned on different aspects of self-defense
products.
Once the data has been collected by Questionnaire and received responses, next step
is to analyze and interpret the data with a view to finding at empirical solution. The
data analysis for the research was done quantitatively with a help of Descriptive
research. Data analysis is the backbone of primary data or secondary data. Analyzing
the data is very intensive and there are various tools of data analysis that helps to
interpret the data into final results.
