JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Audiologist (Band 6) fixed term , Maternity cover (12 months)

Department : Audiology Trust wide

Reports to : Lead paediatric Audiologist

Responsible to : Head of Paediatric Audiology service

Liaises with: Healthcare scientists of all grades, medical colleagues,


service users, teachers of the deaf.

Job Summary

General: This post is for a suitably qualified Audiologist with a proven track record of
experience working with children of all ages .

Specific: To work as part of the audiology team to provide diagnostics and auditory
rehabilitation for our Paediatric service and support to paediatric ENT

Duties and responsibilities

Clinical

1. Perform routine audiological investigations on individuals of all ages, to support


the differential diagnosis of auditory dysfunction.

2. Agree aural rehabilitation for patients, including the selection, fitting and
exchange of a range of NHS digital hearing aids, the taking of aural impressions
and giving advice on assistive listening devices.

3. Complete routine follow up checks of hearing aid use , verification and validation
including: REM, RECD , REAR and REIR measurements. Report writing to
stakeholders including AVP’s, TOD’s , Paediatric colleagues, safe guarding teams,
ENT, SALT and GP’S

4. Undertake routine hearing aid repair/servicing clinics

5. Perform advanced audiological tests dependant on experience , including


Auditory Brainstem response in support of NHSP

6. Perform ward visits to in patients requiring assessment or hearing aid issue or


repair
8 Provide audiological support for ENT and Audiological Medicine clinics

9 Provide secondary tier Audiologist led clinics performing age appropriate


diagnostic testing, clinical management of caseload and report writing.

10 Provide cover for colleagues as required

Administrative

1. Undertake the receipt/despatch of aural impressions/ear-moulds.

2. Assist with the ordering of Stock and Non-Stock items.

3. Ensure the availability of up-to-date patient information leaflets

4. Ensure data entered on Audiology Patient Management System is accurate


and current.

5. Complete data entries on all systems used within the department

6. Correspond with GP’s , Education services and other professionals as


appropriate

Governance

Perform Stage A and B daily/weekly equipment calibration checks

Work in accordance with local protocols to ensure that clinical and professional
standards are maintained

Actively participate in clinical audit

Ensure the safety and security of equipment at all times and report any problems
to the Audiology Team Leader at the earliest opportunity.
Assist in the annual equipment calibration programme.

Team Role

Support the Head of Service with the implementation of new service


developments/protocols.
Participate in peer review programmes , including( south west London ) SWL
ABR, SWL VRA and SWL habilitation groups.
Ensure the working environment is clean and tidy and that all necessary supplies
are available.
Promote a professional, welcoming and caring environment
Education and Training/Self Development

Identify own training and development needs and undertake appropriate


training/education as required, supported by regular PDR

Attend professional meetings as required

Adhere to all Trust Policies and Health and Safety, as applicable

General

Any other duties may be discussed and agreed with the Head of Paediatric
Audiology Service.
