My name is Siran Sun, and I am a student in the M.Ed. TESOL program at the
University of San Diego. You are invited to participate in a research study that I am
conducting to understand how ESL teachers facilitate intercultural communicative
competence in an ESL classroom. I would be happy to share the results of this study

a) My classmates seemed shocked when I told them that male can have multiple
wives in our country. My Chinese classmate told me that is illegal in China, I
think I need change the conversation topic.
b) My classmates ask me does Taiwan belong to China? Can I say you are a
Chinese? I told them I prefer to Taiwanese. I will try to explain to them why and
how most Taiwanese think about this matter
