B) TOXIC TRIGGERS
Write the things that make you feel low about yourself. Now identify
whether you can change them or not. If you can, keep them on your
self-improvement to-do list. If you can’t, then forget about them and
focus on the self-love section contents (things you’ve been blessed with).
Example 1: Hearing that I’m dark-skinned. No, that’s how Allah has made me.
Example 2: The fact that I’m overweight Yes, I just need to lose 10 pounds.

Write the names of four people with whom you spend the most time.
Then identify whether their presence has a negative/ positive influence
on your self-esteem. If being in their company is toxic for you (COLUMN

spend more time with them (COLUMN A).

c) LIGHTING up THE THOUGHT TUNNEL
(Scripting positive beliefs within ourselves)
Identify the toxic trigger that starts a negative self-talk in your mind. Write down the
negative thought and the associated emotion that you feel when you say the thought out
loud. Now replace it with a positive alternative version of the thought. Then write the
emotion you feel when thinking about the positive thought. Practice this every time you
catch yourself in a negative self-talk. This way you’ll completely transform your nega-
tive self-talk (a major cause of low sel-esteem and unhappiness) into positive self-talk.
