Vaccine Wars Essay

Being a parent there is nothing more important than the safety of your child (or

children), so what if there was a way for your child to be protected from cancers and/or virus’.

The way vaccines work is, “Vaccines help develop immunity by imitating an infection. This type

of infection, however, does not cause illness “(Understanding How Vaccines Work). Vaccines

help prevent not just your child but everyone in your household from getting virus’ like mumps

or smallpox.

In the long run vaccines are given to help prevent diseases, cancers and virus’.

Imagine not giving your child a shot and them being in pain for day and then later on them

having to deal with a disease for the rest of your life and knowing you could have prevented that

whole situation from happening. There is reason these shots are given, vaccines prevent bad

situations like catching pneumonia, measles and so on. Germs will invade your body and “When

germs, such as bacteria or viruses, invade the body, they attack and multiply. This invasion is

called an infection, and the infection is what causes illness. The immune system then has to fight

the infection. Once it fights off the infection, the body is left with a supply of cells that help

recognize and fight that disease in the future” (Centers for disease control and prevention).

Another point being is if your child is not up to date with their vaccine shots you can get into

trouble with child services. Your child will not even be allowed in school without being up to

date with their vaccine shots. Across America, “all 50 states have mandatory vaccination laws

which are enforced to a greater or lesser degree depending upon how the state law is worded,

what kinds of exemptions are allowed, and how the state’s health, education and social services

agencies implement the law” (Vaccines and CPC, Mothering). If your child has a sever reaction

to the shot, he/she is given inform a doctor and follow Doctors orders. Yes, some children do end

up getting sick from vaccine shots, and yes, there are some vaccine shots that are not necessary,

however for the most part vaccines do work and many doctors have approved of them.
