CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION

A. Background
Provision of clean water for the community takes very important role in improving the health of
the environment or the community, such as a role in reducing the number of people with diseases,
especially those related to water, and plays a role in improving the standard or quality of comunity’s
life.
Until now, the provision of clean water for Indonesian is still dealing with several problems that are
quite complex and have not been fully addressed. One of the problems that still faced nowadays is the
low service of clean water for the community.
In our country, another problem that needs to be in adressed is the garbage. Garbage will always
exist and will not stop being produced by human life, the amount of garbage will be directly
proportional to the population, it can imagined the amount of garbage in large populated cities. This
problem will arise when the garbage is piled up and cannot be managed properly.

B. Objectives
1. To know about the provision of clean water.
2. To be able to analyze the influence of water supply and waste disposal for health.
CHAPTER II
DISCUSSION

A. Definition of Water Supply

Based on the Decree of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia No. 1405 / menkes / sk /
xi / 2002 on Health Requirements of Office Working Environment and Industry, there is an
understanding of Clean Water ie water used for daily purposes and the quality meets the water health
requirements in accordance with the legislation and can be drunk when it cooked.

B. Source of Clean Water

According to the guidance of the Integrated Urban Infrastructure Development Program regarding the
Clean Water Sector Planning and Design Guidelines, it is mentioned that the raw water sources that
need to be processed are:
1. Springs, That is the source of water that is above the ground suface. The debit is difficult to predict,
unless research is done in a long period.
2. Shallow wells (shallow wells), That is the source of excavated water or drilling of a depth is less
than 40 meters.
3. Wells deep, That is the source of excavated water or drilling a depth is more than 40 meters.
4. River, Namely water drainage channel that formed from upstream in the mountains / high until it
reaches the sea / lake. In general, water standard obtained from the river must be processed because
the possibility to be polluted is very large.
5. Lake and Water Reservoir,That is a certain amount of water reservoir units whose water comes
from the river and the catchment from the rain.
C. Quality Standards of water
In Indonesia the provisions on water quality standards refer to the Minister of Health Regulation
based on Government Regulation no. 416 of 1990 on the Terms and Supervision of the Quality of
Clean Water. Based on the Minister of Health's Decree 1990 the criteria for determining water quality
standards are divided into three parts:
1. Water quality requirements for drinking water.
2. Water quality requirements for clean water.
3. Water quality requirements for liquid waste for activities that have been in operation.

The consideration to the importance of clean water for human needs, the water quality must meet the
following requirements:
1. Physical Terms,:
1. Water should be clean and not turbid.
2. Colorless
3. No tasting
4. No smell
5. Temperature between 10o-25oC (cool)
2. Terms of chemicals,:
1. No toxic chemical contain .
2. No excessive chemicals contain.
3. Quite iodine.
4. Water pH between 6.5 - 9.2.
3. Terms of bacteriology,:
no contain germ contain such as dysentery, typhoid, cholera, and disease-causing pathogenic
bacteria.
D. The projection of Clean Water Needs
Variables that determine the magnitude of need for clean water include the following items:
1. Population
2. Type of activity
3. Standard water consumption for individuals
4. Number of connections

Other assumptions used follow the trends of existing data in the field as well as criteria and
standards issued by authorized institutions, such as:
1. Service coverage
2. The Number of users for each connection type
3. Connection type
4. Level of water consumption requirement
5. Comparison of SR / HU
6. Domestic and Non Domestic Needs
7. Number of leaks
8. Fire prevention

Planning of clean water infrastructure is done by taking into account the amount of water required
for the planning area. Projected water needs are calculated using population projection data, clean
water demand standards, service coverage, water loss coefficient, and peak factor calculated for the
security of the planning countimg.

CHAPTER III
COVER

A. Conclusion
In the process of provision of clean water in Indonesia has applied rules but has not fully
implemented well in the real life, since many factors that influence on it, both in terms of human
resources, awareness of the implementer, the situation, and the source of funds available. Thus it
has not been able to create an Indonesia that is ready to overcome the occurrence of natural
disasters that quickly, accurately, and properly. Furthermore, we can not prepare for Indonesia as a
country capable of in the process of waste management in the right way.

B. Suggestions
After reading and understanding the contents of this paper on clean water, it is expected that
readers can apply and persuade the community to improve sanitation in Indonesia especially in the
term of clean water problem.
