Revision Reflection #1

After reexamining my paper, I was able to realize minor changes that needed to be

corrected in my writing. In giving myself a few days before taking a second look, I was able to

make changes with fresh eyes. The notes provided by the professor acted as a guide for what I

should improve as well as pointers given to me by a peer who reviewed my paper. Before

starting my own rewrite, I also peer reviewed a friend’s essay as a way to get momentum going

and obtain ideas for how to better my own writing and what errors to look out for.

When writing my first draft, I found it most difficult to connect the strategies employed

by the author to the impact they have on the audience. Because the two articles differed greatly

from each other, it was challenging to identify similar effects they had on the audience. Once I

thought about what exactly the author was trying to achieve with each strategy and how it

connected to the argument being made, it was easier to understand how they would directly

affect the audience.

Once I constructed the main ideas of my paper, I always find myself editing and revising

until I believe I’ve produced the best draft possible. This often mades it difficult to go back make

more changes, which is why I rely on the opinions of others to point out what I might not be able

to see in my own writing. In my rewrite I mainly focused on expanding on the ideas I originally

incorporated to make them more clear and fixed the small errors I glazed over during the first

draft to create a smoother piece overall.
