E-books
E-Books or electronic books are the electronic version of printed books which can be read on
a computer or smartphone or any other flat panel display device. They are also referred as e-
journals, e-editions or digital books. The devices that are designed specifically for reading e-
books are called e-readers or e-book device. At the start of 2012, more e-books were published
online than were distributed in hardcover.

E-Books in present world

E-Books has made a significant impact in the way learning is practiced in today’s digital age.
They are available on wide range of topics covering every category right from education to
politics and self-help to social media. They can be easily accessed at any time convenient to
the reader using a laptop, tablet or cell phone. This way, eBooks allow people to learn what
they want to learn, when they want to learn and from where they want to learn. This makes
them highly important as they provide so much flexibility as a modern tool for gaining valuable
knowledge as per the convenience of the reader. They have taken the form of an online tutor
and replaced the need for a traditional teacher or mentor.
Despite all the features available till date, e-books are facing numerous issues and
challenges these days. Like

• Less content available

• Lack of standardisation (anyone can put anything online)
• Eye-sight issues of people (Especially children and old)
• Increasing screen time (students)
• Lack of resources (devices aren’t available to all)
• Terrible pricing (not in the manner of disposable as said in numerous surveys)
• Isn’t eco-friendly (computers and other devices aren’t disposable at all)

E-Books in future
Talking about the future of e-books we can conclude that it is probably going to have a big
market share like that of printed books in today’s world. Live and interactive books where
reader’s and author can together have constructive discussion over the content. Here the
chances of misinterpreting content in its true sense. Also this can create an opportunity for the
readers to suggest edits or even share their point of view with the world. Also with better
advancement in screen technology’s, reading will be safer in those days. There are also chances
that with advancements in e-book technology. Inclination of children towards e-books may
increase if they can be made interactive and child friendly.
Other than all this a numerous change will take place like:

• Online platforms for small writers for their writing to be published.

• No need of any brand type publisher for your writings to be published at a larger
market.
• Also, google will start making lots of money using it’s AdSense W.R.T reader’s digest.
• Subscription services would be more in the limelight of all this.
• References and bibliography would be more interactive and easier to trace.
• Piracy and copying of writings would be decreased with dedicated software’s and
programs.
• Reader sort of devices and apps will have an independent market.
• In built library platform would increase.
• Audio option with e-books would be used and videos for step by step guide may be
included.
