Kahoot!

is a web-based game learning platform used as educational technology

in schools and other educational institutions which allows teachers to conduct student-
paced formative assessments in a fun and engaging way for students of all ages.
It is founded and developed by Johan Brand, Jamie Brooker, and Morten Versvik
along with Norwegian research council of Norwegian University of Technology and
Science.
By using this platform, you can teach any subject to any age with any device. It
consists of multiple choice questions, quizzes, discussion, and surveys. It is available
in optional languages such as English, Spanish, Russian etc.) It can be played without
registration. But if you want to create a quiz, then you are needed to create an account.
It is designed for social learning, with learners gathered around a common screen
such as an interactive whiteboard, projector or a computer monitor. It can also be used
through screen-sharing tools such as Skype and Google Hangouts.
Kahoot! can be played through different web browsers and mobile devices
through its web interface. Kahoot! Assess students’ knowledge and collects students’
opinions by making learning fun and interactive.
By using Kahoot!, as a teacher or soon-to-be teachers we can develop ourselves
by collaborating with our colleagues, by sharing our knowledge with each other as well.
We can break the ice, re-energize the classes, and reward good behaviors too in
a fun way.
The gameplay is simple; all players connect using a generated game PIN shown
on the common screen and use a device to answer questions created by a teacher,
business leader, or other people. These questions can be changed to award points.
Points then show up on the leaderboard after each question.
You make the students enter the 5 digit numbers to join the game which will be
given by yourself.

Students can give themselves any name, but you can kick them from the login if you
do not like that name.
You can download results, reaction times and also feedback on an Excel spreadsheet
or web page to evaluate the learning of the students and highlight where there may
need to be follow up work.
Benefits of Kahoot!
• There is no limit to the number of participants
• Can be played with participants in different locations worldwide
• Free and carries no advertisements.
• Has ready to use quizzes
• Can create your own quizzes
• Automatically saves questions
• Provides data on each participant’s responses
• The first screen compliments the second screen (use your own device but also
the classroom projector)
Can be shared on Kahoot or social networks (Facebook, Pinterest, etc.) but you also
have the option to keep it private.
The only challenge that I noticed is not being able to put questions in order. And due
to the number of participants, pictures can come a bit after the question. And making
students compete with each other all the time might cause some problems.
I have tried it for only once for a translation meeting at where I work and notice that
it could be used for other classes as well since it makes learning more fun and
enjoyable.
I would use Kahoot for:
 fact fluency practice
 timed drills
 facts that students need to have memorized
 fun review quizzes (not math or something that will require problem-solving
though)
I would NOT use Kahoot with/for:
 gifted and talented students who may become anxious with the time limit
 problems that require time to solve or consider

I would say it will not be used for a long time because as it is the first version of the
web-based game learning platform, even now there are new platforms which share the
same approach with Kahoot! I guess it will be used for several years more and will
leave its place to the alternative platforms such as prickle and quizizz.
