Preface

Black macuahuitl was a movie script I wrote when I was in my early 20’s, about a Mexican geek who found a cursed black macuahuitl,
and fought all kind Mexican folklore creatures.
It never came by, but some friends and I did a storyboard for the story intro, which happened during the time Spain colonized America.

Right now, thanks to self-publishing, I’m rescuing the prologue of this old story as a language learning tool for people studying Spanish
(or English).

A big thanks to my cousin Abigail Vázquez, and to my fellow graphic design students from Cecati 24, Joanna E. Larraga y Miguel Angel
Murinho , who made 90% of the illustrations for short tale, as well as Jesus Miguel, who took some pictures for the concept art.

Prefacio

Black macuahuitl fue un guión de pelicula que escribi cuando estaba en el principio de mis 20’s, sobre un geek mexicano que encontró
un macuahuitl negro maldito, y luchaba con todo tipo de criaturas del folklore mexicano.
Nunca lo realice, pero unos amigos y yo hicimos un storyboard para la introducción de la historia, que sucedia durante la era en que
España colonizo america.

Ahora mismo, gracias al self publishing, estoy rescatando el prologo de esta vieja historia como una herramienta de aprendizaje para
gente estudiando español (o Ingles).

1.- Hundreds of years ago, the Aztecs were the more powerful civilization in Mesoamerica.

1.- Hace cientos de años, los aztecas eran la civilización más poderosa en Mesoamerica.

2.- because of Their army They were feared and respected by the other Mesoamerican tribes.

2.- Por su ejercito, fueron temidos y respetados por las otras tribus mesoamericanas.

3.- The general of the Aztecs, Yaotl, was the most feared of them all.

3.- El general de los aztecas, Yaotl, era el mas temido de todos

4.- His macuahuitl was all black. Not only the obsidian blades, but also the wood.

4.- Su macuahuitl era totalmente negro, no solo las cuchillas de obsidiana, también la madera.

5.- The rumor was that it was given to him by Mictlantecuhtli, the god of dead, and it imprissioned the souls of the ones it killed.

5.- Los rumores era que se lo había dado Mictlantecuhtli, el dios de la muerte, y aprisionaba las almas de los que mataba.

6.-One day a group of outsiders arrived by sea. It was the Spaniards, who came in search of gold and riches.

6.- Un dia un grupo de forajidos llego desde el mar. Eran los españoles que venian en busca de oro y riquezas

7.- War started, and even with their less advanced weapons, the Aztecs were beating the Spaniards, but then…
7.- La guerra empezo, e incluso con sus armas menos avanzadas, los aztecas estaban ganándole a los españoles, pero entonces…

8.-The Spaniards used a weapon they didn’t even know they had. A new disease for the Aztecs: Smallpox.

8.-Los españoles usaron un arma que ni siquiera ellos sabían que tenían. Una enfermedad nueva para los aztecas: La viruela

9.-After thousands died, Yaotl reunited the last of the army to strike down the Spaniards in a final battle.

9.-Despues de que murieron miles, Yaotl reunió lo ultimo del ejercito, para acabar con los españoles en la batalla final.

10.- But when he came back to his house to rest before the battle, he found his pregnant wife infected with the mortal disease.

10.- Pero cuando regreso a su casa para descanzar antes de la batalla, encontró a su esposa embarazada, contagiada con la mortal
enfermedad.

11.- Desperate to save her, he asked help from the god of the death. The god accepted, on one condition.

11.-Desesperado por salvarla, pidió ayuda al dios de los muertos. El dios acepto, pero con una condición.

12.-He had to flee until he reached the sea, while the Spaniards slaughtered what remained of the Aztecs.

12.- Ellos tenían que huir hasta llegar al mar, mientras que los españoles masacraban a lo que quedaba de los aztecas.

13.- The god delivered on his promise, Yaotl’s wife got better, but nevertheless, she was always sad because of her people.

13.- El dios cumplio su promesa y la esposa de Yaotl mejoro, pero a pesar de esto, ella estaba siempre triste por su gente.

14.- One day while Yaotl was hunting, she took her own life, and with that, the life of his unborn child.

14.- Un dia mientras Yaotl estaba cazando, ella tomo su propia vida, y con ella, la vida de su hijo no nato.

15.- Angry and heartbroken, he blamed all the gods and cursed them. As punishment, they imprisioned him inside his own sword.

15.- Enojado y con el corazón roto, culpo a todos los dioses, y los maldijo. Como castigo, ellos aprisionaron su alma dentro de su propia
espada.

16.- As of today, Yaotl soul is still inside the Black macuahuitl, waiting for somebody to finally release him.

16.- Al dia de hoy, el arma de Yaotl esta aun dentro del macuahuitl negro, esperando a alguien que lo libere.
