Video reflection #1

BRMS

8th Grade Women’s Choir

This video is of my first time getting up and teaching anything singing wise so far in my

student teaching experience. I have had other experiences doing some teaching of vocab and

material about musicals and operas, but this is my first time singing with them. I cannot show

the video on my page due to it showing some of the students’ faces and using their names.

However, what the video shows is me teaching the warm-up routine that I am going to be

starting with them.

Looking at the video, I think one of my biggest flaws right now is that I take too much

time to explain things when I should really just start singing and the students will catch on.

Doing this will greatly cut down on transition time and keep the attention of the students. I

think one of the things I did well was progress through the warm-ups in a logical manner that

really helped them warm-up their bodies and their voices. Something else I could improve upon

is getting my piano accompaniment skills improved a little bit so that there aren’t as many dead

spaces during their warm up exercises.

I lucked out and did not have any behavioral issues during this period, so that was not

something I had to deal with at any point.
