LESSON PLAN 1 3

VI. Lesson Beginning/Hook:

Who likes monkeys?! Who knows how old they are or I am? Do you all think numbers
are important?

VII. Instructional Plan:

a. While asking the questions to children I will be setting up the different activities
on each table the they will be participating in after story time.
b. After students have been able to get the chance to answer my questions, I will
then start to read the book “Monkey stuff”.
c. As the teacher is reading through the pages, I will make sure to point out how
many objects there are of each thing after reading the text on the book.
d. How many bones did the monkey steal? Is that more than the eggs he stole?
e. Based on the enthusiast of the students while reading the book then I will start to
point out how the numbers are going up and stop at 10!
f. Upon finishing up the book I will then explain the different setups I have for
them.
g. One table has cloud shape with rainbow strips, colorful cereal and glue. There are
two dice at the table they will be rolling to determine how many cereal pieces
they will be placing on each color.
h. On the rug there will be puddled shaped construction paper where the children
will be able to jump and count up the numbers.
i. The other table will have egg shaped construction paper with a number on each of
them and there will hole punchers. Depending on the number they have in front of
them they will punch that amount of holes in.
j. Instruct children to chose what they will want to do first and from there they will
be able to rotate.
k. While children are playing within in their area walk around to make sure they are
all on task and move them along to be able to rotate in an orderly manner.

VIII. Lesson Wrap Up:

After they have all ben able to participate in each activity, they will then each sit a table
and have discuss between them what they have learned and see if they remember until
what number they can count up to. They will be able to discuss how far they got through
jumping with the puddles on the floor. The table that sat at the clouds with the dice, they
will be able to discuss how many numbers there are on each side of the dice. Once they
have been able to discuss amongst themselves, they will be instructed to come together
on the rug where we will go over everything they did and which activity they loved the
most.
LESSON PLAN 1 4

IX. Culminating or Follow up Activity:

Students will be able to apply their knowledge to everyday life. If their parents or anyone
asks them to get them maybe let’s say two apples than they will know the quantity of
those apples. If they are at a grocery store or at the store with their parents than they will
be able to help out because they will know their numbers. Each activity had a purpose.
The puddle one is for them to be able to count their steps and move around while doing
so for those who learn better while moving around. For the activity with the dice and the
cereal it is helping them match colors in case outside of school or at home their parents as
for two pairs of shoes that are blue than they will be able to correspond. It also helps
them identify how many dots there are on each side of the dice. Last but not least the one
with hole punching the constructed eggs, this helps them use their motor skills when
pressing hard on the hole puncher. While doing so they also learn how to count up their
numbers while creating the quantity of holes.
