INTRODUCTION

The common home problem especially in the kitchen are pest like cockroaches are

everywhere and it can give a various disease.

Allium sativum (Garlic) is native to central Asia and north east Iran and has long been

a common seasoning World wide with a history of several thousand years of human

consumption. It has been used to both food flavoring and traditional medicine. Garlic has a

natural fungicidal and pesticidal property that works effectively to control pest which

makes it an excellent environmental - friendly and non - toxic pesticide.

Pest repeller help to control, prevent and eliminate both household and structural pest.

There are many pest repellent available, some contains synthetic chemicals and other have

natural ingredients apart from that, there are vast of pest repeller that has noxious

ingredients, exposure from it can not only cause number of health issues but it can lead to

serious illness and disease particularly in the respiratory system chemicals. In the pesticide

cannot only damage the health but the environment as well. It can accumulate pollution and

cause thinning of the ozone layer. The number of problems from the pesticide impelled the

researchers to seek investigation and create a natural pest repeller.

7
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The importance of this study is to spread the knowledge using organic ingredients to

repel the pest in the house as well as in the environment. Specially to maintain the healthy

lifestyle because researchers know that all kinds of pests can bring bad effects and diseases

that will affect the environment and society. This study will benefit to the farmers,

gardeners and housekeepers because it will help them to repel / kill the pest that destroy

their properties. This will prove that using organic ingredients are better than using

chemical ingredients to contaminate the pests when it comes to the house and to the people

around that will use this. The product is totally safe and environmental friendly that will

makes the area safe all the time.

5
LOCAL LITERATURE

According to the sf gates home guides, garlic might be tasty ingredients in your

favorite spaghetti sauce, but they will also help to keep bugs at bay. Use fresh bulbs of

garlic and onions to repel bug on plants without harming the plant and without the need for

toxic chemicals or commercial insecticides. The sulfur compound in the onion and garlic

keep bugs away by simply producing an odor that pesky garden pest do not like.

Garlic is immensely effective against cockroaches. It is advisable to sprinkle garlic

powder in and around infested areas. Cockroaches hate the smell of garlic.

According to Srikanth R. cockroaches are insects that predate dinosaurs by more than

150 million years. They are all well known for their ability to adapt to changes in their

environment. There are more than 3,500 species of cockroach worldwide. It can bring

dreadful diseases like gastro entretis and galmonelia many cockroach repellents are

available in the market and most of them are loaded with chemicals that may harm the

human beings.

8
FOREIGN LITERATURE

According to Patrick Parker SavAtree Plant Health Care Program Director. One

treatment with garlic is effective for two weeks and can repel for up to one month. Garlic is

known for its anti-biotic qualities allicin. The major biologically active component of

garlic exhibits antibacterial and antifungal properties and is used in medical treatment and

studies.

Allium Sativum from William Woodville, medical botany, 1793. Garlic is a species in

the onion genus. It was known to ancient Egyptians, and has been used both as a food

flavoring and as a traditional medicine family; Amaryllidaceae. Hippocrates promoted the

used of garlic for treating respiratory problems, parasites, poor digestion and fatigue.

Garlic is herbaceous, annual, bulbous plant in the family Amaryllidaceae grown for its

pungent, edible bulb of the same time.

Homemade bio pesticides are prepared by household members using local resources

with having study or research. The study was conducted overwhelming the period of 3

months started from July 1 to September concentrating delduar upazila under tangail

district with the view to know about the homemade bio-pesticides in relation to their use,

formulations and safe, low cost, locally available resources utilization system through

engaging family labor.

9
The common understanding on homemade pesticides and organic pest management

was very positive. Both preventive and control measures were taken by the farmers in the

study area. Perching light trap and cultural practices were very much common in pest

management.

Farmers review about pesticide:

When using a pesticide, it has negative effects to their crops, environment and their

health and it can also increase risk to the potential danger through exposure of pesticide. So

the researchers believe that if the organic pesticide use once a week it can minimize pest

and insect at the same time at your garden and kitchen where cockroaches mostly live. The

percentage of pesticides that are solid here in the Philippines is 62% showing that the

insecticides had become one of the major expenses of farmer. The researchers think that

the organic pesticides like garlic, and many more will be the key to lessen the potential

pesticides poisoning among farmers.

ABSTRACT

To determine the pesticidal property of Allium Sativum extract, the plant was tested

against the cockroaches under the experiment. The concentration that can repel the

cockroaches after 2 hours was determined. Findings revealed that the extract of Allium

Sativum can repel the cockraoaches at 50% to 100% concentration of Allium Sativum

which confirms the pesticidal property of the Allium Sativum extract.

The use of Allium Sativum extract as a pest repeller is recommended to make the place

safe against the cockroaches that may bring diseases and damages.

I
SUMMARY OF FINDINGS

Summary and findings When observing the experiment, the researchers found out that

the solution does not instantly kill the cockroach but it weakens them. While testing the

solution, the researchers discovered that they need to apply maximum of 6 sprays directly

at the cockroaches. The researchers also observed that the cockroach weakens within 5

minutes of contact with the solution. The researchers discovered that the solution works

more effectively when using the 100% of garlic extract in a 20 ml container. The

researchers noted that the time of when they weakens or die differ from the size of the

cockroach, as smaller ones weakens or dies faster and the larger ones tends to have a longer

amount of time.

17
CONCLUSION

The researchers conclude that the use of garlic as a pest repeller is effective. The

researchers conclude that:

 The product will repel the cockroach.

 There is a difference between safety of using natural pest repeller and chemical pest

repeller.

 The concentration works as a pest repeller.

Researchers conclude that the problem of getting rid of the cockroaches can be solved

using garlic and it is much safer than any other synthetic chemical pest repeller.

18
RECOMMENDATION

Researchers recommend that the garlic is safely effective when it comes to repel the

pest especially to the cockroaches. Because of its pesticidal property, it can repel pest that

makes your house safe from cockroaches without harming or damaging the health of the

people who will use this.

19
SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS

The scope of the researchers study focuses on the effectivity of the natural pest repeller

using garlic as the main ingredient. The respondent of this study are the cockroaches that

are being used in every trial. We used 3 cockroaches per replicate with different

concentration. This study aims to test the effect of garlic extract in cockroaches. This study

will be conducted in one of the researchers house in Imus,Cavite
