Statement Design

As someone who lives close by and absolutely adores the beach, the health of marine

animals is very important to me. When concluding to what my infographic for this writing

project should be about, animals in captivity came to mind. For a while now, there are many

news articles expressing the dangers of marine animals in captivity as it inhibits the animal’s

physiological and physiological state. The captive conditions can be so damaging that the

lifespan of these marine animals is only a few months. As I have a strong opinion and interest on

this issue, the main purpose of my infographic is to spread awareness to an audience about the

reality of animals in captivity and how society can contribute to making captive animals feel

nurtured and safe.

When starting my infographic, I had many ideas for a layout. Ultimately, I wanted to be

able to create my infographic to look like a vintage scrapbook in order to represent how long this

issue has been occurring for captive animals and that people fail to realize. In order to create this

type of layout, I would have needed to gather my information and pictures, print it, cut out each

element of my infographic, glue it all together, and then scan it. Then I had realized I was

focusing more on my artistic ability in order to create this infographic rather than pay attention to

the sources and information I would be including in this writing project. Along with that, I did

not have enough time to create this scrapbook layout as I have other classes to balance time for.

If I did manage my time better, I would have still tried this because I think it would make my

infographic unique. Instead, I used online software to create the infographic.

Because there is a ton of information on this issue, it was a struggle to narrow down what

I should include in my final infographic. If I tried to include more information than I already

have in my infographic, it would have too many words. I tried to avoid using a ton of words as I

am assuming an audience does not want to take the time to read a detailed portion of my

infographic, but rather read a piece of information that is concise and gives the audience enough

information about the issue. I believe I came across this issue because I had been more focused

on finding scholarly sources on my topic. There were not many scholarly sources, to begin with

on the topic of my infographic, but when I eventually found one, the source went too much into

detail on a specific portion of the issue. Because it went into too much detail for the majority of

my scholar sources, it was a struggle to find broad information that I can include on my

infographic.

Another element I would have changed is the color scheme. The reason why I chose gray

and an island water blue is as my final colors are because it matched with the colors surrounding

marine animals and the ocean. I tried seeking for more vibrant colors to grab an audience’s

attention, but I could not find vibrant colors that also matched with the topic of my infographic.
