Elman, Elyssa. "A Low-Carbohydrate Diet Isn't just a Fad." Montreal Gazette, 24 Aug. 2017
"'You're no longer diabetic!' This was a phrase that I was fortunate enough to be able to
tell six different patients last week who were previously diagnosed with Type two diabetes. 'You
don't need your blood pressure medication, or this statin anymore either"'is becoming another
one of my catch-phrases, too. I've uttered those words more in the last six months than in the
previous nine years combined of practice as a family doctor. What am I doing to be able to say
this to patients? Simple: showing them how to take control of their health through eating foods
low in carbs and high in fats." Montreal Gazette In this viewpoint article, the author a physician
credits a low-carb diet with changing her life and the life of her patients.
This article is basically the main theme of my topic. I choose this because it’s trying to
answer my questions to see which one is better low carb or low fat. This article gave me
examples of people testing to see what’s the difference between low carb and low fat.
Kris Gunnars. “23 Studies on Low-Carb and Low-Fat Diets Time to Retire The Fad.” Healthline,
Things have been debated as much as carbohydrates vs fat. Most of the studies are being
conducted on people with health problems, including overweight/obesity, type II diabetes and
metabolic syndrome. The main outcomes measured are usually weight loss, as well as common
risk factors like Total Cholesterol, LDL Cholesterol, HDL Cholesterol, Triglycerides and Blood
Sugar levels. Some believe that increased fat in the diet is a leading cause of all kinds of health
problems, especially heart disease. Some believe that increased fat in the diet is a leading cause
So basically this discuss the studies on different people testing to see how low their carb
and fat is. This people all over the world how high and low their eating habits are. There are a lot
of overweight individuals who are put into low carb and low fat diets. This fits my research
because my argument is determining which is better low carb and low fat. I don’t know which is
better.
Ludwig, David S. "Could Your Healthy Diet make Me Fat?" New York Times, 29 Nov. 2015
"Some people eat as little fat as possible to lose weight and stay healthy, while others
avoid carbohydrates. A vegan diet with no animal products and the paleo diet with lots both have
enthusiastic devotees. One popular diet encourages intermittent fasting, another frequent small
meals. The study suggested that dieters may be mistakenly eating a lot of some foods, like
tomatoes, that are good for most people, but bad for them. And it raised the possibility that an
individualized approach to nutrition could eventually supplant national guidelines meant for the
entire public.
This article will help me on my research because it deals with an organization who is

O'Connor, Anahad. "How Much do Calories Count?" New York Times, 21 Feb. 2018
"How Much do Calories Count?"is discussing that the standard prescription for weight
loss is to reduce the amount of calories you consume. It’s been known that people who cut back
on added sugar, refined grains and highly processed foods while concentrating on eating plenty
This article is a very good reference because I can relate to this. I learned about how
much sugar you should take in each day in health class. My purpose of this research is to figure
out if carb or fat is good for you, how much you should eat, and which is better for you.

carb approach is superior and for those who say all diets are pretty much the same. Some experts
say the bottom line remains unchanged. The best diet for you may be one you can stick to

This will be good for my research because this generation people aren’t eating right. We
need all the help we can get. Compare to all the other sources, the second to fourth sources
discuss on some eating rights but mainly exercising and building muscle. My argument is low
carb vs low fat and with these sources I can determine which one I should use more. Ii hasn’t

"Dieting doesn't cure obesity. That's not news, although it was reconfirmed last week a
The researchers followed contestants from the 'The Biggest Loser' television show as these
formerly obese contestants proceeded to regain most of the massive amounts of weight they had
lost on the show. As reported in the journal Obesity, these 'Biggest Loser' contestants were the
victims of 'metabolic compensation.' As they tried to keep their weight under control, their
bodies remained particularly resistant to expending energy. The findings implied that to maintain
their weight loss they would have to remain hungry and calorie-deprived for the rest of their
years, and they might still regain the weight they'd lost and then some."

regain atrophied muscle, and experience dramatic increases in resting metabolic rate. There are

minutes 3 days a week. Also both doctors explains how strength training can prevent diabetes,
On a low-carb diet, you're encouraged to eat foods like meat and eggs, which happen to
be rich in saturated fat and cholesterol. Hypoglycemia can be caused by a lack of carbohydrates
in healthy people. As a woman, determining how many carbs constitutes an effective, low-carb
diet isn't simple. While low-carb diets can help you lose weight and stabilize blood sugar,
women's needs vary. Highly active women who regularly do high workouts may need slightly
more carbohydrates.
