Pluto Is a Planet

Pluto, the most debated topic in planetary scientist history! Grinspoon and Sterns article

“Yes, Pluto is a Planet” goes back three years ago as they deployed the fastest spaceship ever

launched, the “New Horizon”. The ship pushed past Pluto discovering wonders of the newly seen

world. The planetary scientists use “Planet” as a way of describing the worlds certain qualities.

Throughout the article they are trying to persuade the reader that their definition of “Planet” is

the correct way to define it. The authors logically explain why Pluto is a planet and their

evidence throughout the article by using logos.

One can assume that, the author had looked at the origin of the word to be able to

redefine it. The author says, “We find ourselves using the word “Planet” to describe the largest

“moons” in the solar system; Moon refers to the fact that they orbit around other worlds which

themselves orbit our star”. The author argues that this is the general definition of the word Planet

between all planetary sciences. “IAU scientist defined “planet”…they chose a definition that

discounts the actual physical properties of a potential planet, electing instead to define “planet”

in terms of the other objects that are-or are not-orbiting nearby”. Taking in IAU’s definition the

author agrees, but also states that their definition discredit’s the physical properties of a potential

planet. Using all the ideas form different places the author logically puts his perspective in order

redefine it thus, calling Pluto a planet.

To Conclude, going three years back with horizon was launched it opened up new

opportunities to take another look at what planetary scientist thought “Planet” should be defined

as. Eventually scientist will come to an actual conclusion or maybe they may not but for right

now planets are “round objects in our solar system.
