MSc in IT management

Albert Einstein once said, “Information is not knowledge”.

In an age where information is aplenty, the greatest challenge is to comprehend everything. It is

through appropriate sifting, tabulation, comparison and perception of information that one
obtains ‘knowledge’; knowledge that can empower an organization to see its present state,
where its future lies and the numerous paths to achieving its goals. This aspect of Information
Systems – drawing critical insights from available information– intrigues me most.

At present, I have just finished my undergraduate study at L.N. Mishra College of Business
Management, studying Bachelor of Business Administration. I was ranked top third in my class.
Apart from my perseverance, my deep love for this specialty and my incessant perfecting of study
methods have contributed to this improved performance, which has further convinced me of my
unmistakable potential in this area. As a scientific discipline. MSc in IT Management
comprehends eBusiness & Operational Application Systems, Scientific methodology, Knowledge
& Information Management, Business Intelligence Information Ethics, Web Publishing and Data
analysis. This interdisciplinary nature underlies my deep interest in MSc in IT Management.
Through the study of MSc in IT Management, I will not only learn useful knowledge in a great
variety of fields but also will come to the realization concerning human knowledge—that man
can solve his target problems most effectively and efficiently through a comprehensive
application of knowledge in related fields.

My share of learning through activities besides professional and academic have enhanced my all-
round development. Consistent participation and success at debates has helped shape me as a
confident and effective communicator. Participation in numerous trivia quizzes from school
through college helped inculcate the traits of curiosity and research meticulosity in me. The
crowning moment of my schooling career was representing my school at the young
mathematician contest and stood 6th at state level.

Having learnt, spoken and managed information technology and management implementations
primarily from an information security perspective, I seek to gain a broader view of Information
Technology and their business roles in organizations better. Business processes, team
management, and quantification of Management Information technology are the targeted areas
for learning during the course of my graduate studies. In my work experience in Megistron Media
and Idea Cellular Services Limited. I have seen that most Information technology
implementations, although inherently impressive, are plagued with some common problems.
Incorrect choice of systems, aggressive timelines and poor utilization of information sources
generally limit companies’ operational maturity and return on investment. The under-utilization
of information sources is generally because business teams are not made aware of the complete
power and capabilities of a system about to be implemented. The course structure with a healthy
mixture of core technical, business, policy and management courses, will help me be the key
bridge between business and technology in an organization.
Also, rigid adherence to ‘Industry Best Practices’ without gauging their relevance to goals at hand,
has led to inefficient and short-visioned Systems designs. I aspire to lead successful and
sustainable implementations resolving aforementioned issues and any others that might be
encountered. I intend to develop ‘flexible’ methodologies and practices basing hinged upon
Industry sectors and Business models, which could possibly re-write industry standards for
systems implementations.

Policy is vital to any organization’s IT strategy and design. Given my aspirations to work on IT
Strategy and Management, knowledge of formulating and writing policy is of great relevance. It
would equip me with skills to mold my ideas and thoughts into action for any organization. My
aptitude and creativity, combined with the requisite skill and knowledge obtained through the
program will help me achieve my aspirations. I view a MSc in IT Management as the first and best
step towards achieving my career objective. I firmly believe this highly educative experience will
propel my career in the right direction.
