Introduction - Writing Portfolio

I included five different writing projects that I completed in the last 8 months. My first writing

project is a newspaper article that I wrote in my american history class. It is about the Pearl

Harbor Attack that happened in 1941. It is written as that the Newspaper would have been

published one day after the attack. In my opinion, it is a really interesting topic and I liked to

research information for my article. My second project is my annotated bibliography of

Australia. This is my favorite writing project because I put a lot of work in that Project and there

you can see how much I improved my writing skills. The third project I included is an essay that

I wrote in my Economics class about the difference of a move along the difference between a

move along the demand curve and a shift in the curve altogether. I included that to show that I

am able to write about things that are important in your life too and show that I understand what

is going on in my other classes. My fourth project is an essay about an aphorism from the book

Tuesdays with Morrie that I read in my english class. The aphorism was that if you really want it,

then you will make your dream happen. It is one of my favorite aphorism and inspired me a lot. I

also really like the essay I wrote about it and it shows my writing skills too. The last project I

included was the third part of my public policy project about Gay-marriage. I chose this one

because I am able to find information about current issues and write about it.

I came to Concord high school last year and I already was alright in english but I improved my

language and writing skills extremely. I learned how to write long essays in english and how to

get good information for it. Also, I learned how to read articles and understand it because of the

many Newsela articles I read in the past 8 months. In Germany, I learned how to write essays in

German and English but especially the teacher of Concord High school helped me to be able to
write a good essay in english.

I realized that it is really important to be able to have good writing skills because you need it for

a lot of things. Almost every job need a application, so you have to be able to write a good one.

Also, you need good writing skills if you want to get good grades in college or if you want to do

a job where you have to write a lot.

I read Tuesdays with Morrie in my English 12 class this year and that made me realize a lot. It

showed me that life is great but short and that I have to work for my goals and dreams. Also, it

talked about being kind and helpful for other persons. I changed my behaviour and my thinking

because of that book, especially because it is a real story. It made me think about how I lived and

what I really want in my life. It influenced me and my writing a lot. After I read the book, my

vocabulary got bigger so I was able to use more different words for my essays etc. So all in all, it

was an amazing book that was definitely worth it to read it.

The one aspect of my reading that I would like to improve is that I can understand more than I do

now. I think I will be able to do that when I make more breaks while I am reading and really

think about what I am reading in that moment. Furthermore, I would like to improve my writing

skills so I do not do a much grammar mistakes than I am still doing. But I am sure I already

improved a lot and I am really proud of me. Especially when you look at my writing samples,

you can see my improvement.
