Guide Questions
1. What will happen to the plant’s vascular bundle s if a dull knife is used in graftage
and cuttage?
If a dull knife was used in graftage and cuttage the knife cut may be jagged, reducing the
chance for bud survival.
2. Give physical or visual descriptions of the cambium layer. Discuss why it is scraped
off in marcotting, while in grafting, effort is taken that the cambium layer of the stock
and scion matches.
Cambium, plural Cambiums, or Cambia, inplants, layer of actively dividing cellsbetween
xylem and phloem tissues that is responsible for the secondary growth of stems androots.
For grafting, it used to propagate plants that does not root well. Furthermore, formarcotting,
it is for plants which the scion is limited.
3. What are some of the desirable characteristics that should be considered in the
selection of rootstock?
Disease resistance, tolerance of winter cold, seasonal flooding and summer droughts, or
reducingtree size. Clonal propagation ensures that the important traits of each rootstock
will make the resulting orchard more manageable and productive.
4. What is polarity and why is it important in plant propagation?
The polarity is the condition where plant parts maintain their spatial orientation
whenseparated from the mother plant. This is essential for cuttings and grafting.
5. In relation to crop protection, what is the distinct advantage of tissue culture over
other methods of asexual propagation?
The distinct advantage of tissue culture over other methods of asexual reproduction isthat
the plants are healthy and readily available for propagation because tissue culture are in
ahighly controlled environments which means there would be no transferring of sickness
fromoutside.

Guide Questions
1. What is agricultural technology?
2. Briefly explain the process of agricultural technology development from basic to
applied research.
3. Give the steps to bring a viable technology to the market and end users, or what is
termed as technology commercialization.
4. Cite some emerging agricultural technologies that might forever change the
landscape of Philippines Agriculture. What impact will they bring that would be
beneficial (or counterproductive) to agriculture?
