Clients need more than just competitive prices and good quality products
The greatest technical development in insurance since the dawn of internet is price comparison websites which, while
useful, actually do very little to improve efficiency of industry for either companies or consumer. The industry must
recognize first and foremost, the consumer protection market operates in C2B model because it’s essentially a buyer’s
market, business models need to adapt to deliver a more customer centric service and making use of right digital tools
to improve its service.
More importantly in markets, insurers should generalize whether their business strategy or offering can span the entire
customer journey, from making buying policies simple and straightforward, to managing the renewal process, all the
way through to the claims process.
Take uber as an example, known for an awesome digital experience that focuses on removing friction and offering
transparency. All of their online presence is tailored to the mobile experience, and integrates well across multiple
channels. Clients seeking support submit their claim to an easy-to-navigate feedback section within the app and hear
back within a few hours.
In today’s digital environment brands and companies have the opportunity to collect more insights on consumer
behavior than even before. In 2013 the total amount of digital data stored globally reached 4.4 zettabytes, equivalent to
about 4.4 trillion gigabytes. IDC predicts that by 2020, when 5.5 billion people will own mobiles, that number will
explode to 44 zettabytes or 44 trillion gigabytes. Personalization marketing is essentially a strategy where companies use
data they acquire on predictions and clients to deliver custom messages and experiences. From personalized dynamic
messages to custom product recommendations, displaying an ad at just the right time, to even increasing from
effectiveness, the use cases of such data in successful customer service is virtually limitless.
