1.0 SCOPE
This procedure briefly describes the computer design/analysis programs available for the
HVAC Section of the Design Engineering Department. For detailed description, the
Engineer should contact the Senior HVAC Engineer.
Block Load is a computer program which calculates design cooling and heating
loads for buildings. It also provides data required to size and select cooling and
heating equipment. The program utilizes the Transfer Function Method to
calculate cooling loads.
The Refrigerant Piping Design Program determines the minimum pipe size
required to deliver refrigerant between the compressor, condenser and
evaporator with specified pressure loss limits.

The U-Value Calculator Program is a software tool used to compute the heat
transfer coefficient of a building construction/assembly.
The Duct Link Program is a microcomputer based program used to design duct
work, when used in conjunction with Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) Software.
Duct Link is able to draw duct work as well.
Duct Sizing Program is a design tool that calculates optimal duct sizes using
either the static regain, equal friction or constant velocity method. The duct sizes
are computed on a round, rectangular and oval basis.
UMI-Duct is a design program used to design both supply and exhaust duct
systems. The program also provides bills of materials and acoustical analysis.
