1.0 SCOPE

This procedure briefly describes the computer design/analysis programs available for the
HVAC Section of the Design Engineering Department. For detailed description, the
Engineer should contact the Senior HVAC Engineer.

2.0 HVAC ANALYSIS AND DESIGN PROGRAMS CURRENTLY IN USE

2.1 Block Load

Block Load is a computer program which calculates design cooling and heating
loads for buildings. It also provides data required to size and select cooling and
heating equipment. The program utilizes the Transfer Function Method to
calculate cooling loads.

2.1.1 Block Load is the proprietary program of Carrier Corporation.

2.2 Refrigerant Piping Design

The Refrigerant Piping Design Program determines the minimum pipe size
required to deliver refrigerant between the compressor, condenser and
evaporator with specified pressure loss limits.

2.2.1 Refrigerant Piping Design is the proprietary program of Carrier

Corporation.

2.3 Water Piping Design

The Water Piping Design Program is a microcomputer based program that

determines pipe sizes and calculates pressure losses of a piping system.

2.3.1 Water Piping Design is the proprietary program of Carrier Corporation.

2.4 Psychgraph

The Psychgraph Design Program is a computerized psychrometric chart. It can

compute psychrometric properties for any temperature between -20°F and
150°F.

2.4.1 The Psychgraphic Design Program is the proprietary program of

Carrier Corporation.

2.5 U-Value Calculator

The U-Value Calculator Program is a software tool used to compute the heat
transfer coefficient of a building construction/assembly.

2.5.1 U-Value Calculator Program is the proprietary program of Carrier

Corporation.

2.6 Duct Link

The Duct Link Program is a microcomputer based program used to design duct
work, when used in conjunction with Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) Software.
Duct Link is able to draw duct work as well.

2.6.1 Duct-Link Program is the proprietary program of Carrier Corporation.

2.7 Commercial HVAC Leads Calculation Program (CHVAC)

CHVAC is a computer program which calculates design cooling and heating

loads for buildings. It also provides data required to size and select cooling and
heating equipment.

2.7.1 CHVAC is the proprietary program of Elite Software Development,

Inc.

2.8 Duct Sizing Program

Duct Sizing Program is a design tool that calculates optimal duct sizes using
either the static regain, equal friction or constant velocity method. The duct sizes
are computed on a round, rectangular and oval basis.

2.8.1 Duct Sizing Program is the proprietary program of Elite Software

Development, Inc.

2.9 UMI-Duct Program

UMI-Duct is a design program used to design both supply and exhaust duct
systems. The program also provides bills of materials and acoustical analysis.

2.9.1 UMI-Duct is the proprietary program of United McGill Corporation.

3.1 Software Validation

3.1.1 All computer programs shall be verified by Senior HVAC Engineer

before being authorized for use by the section.

3.2 Software Maintenance

3.2.1 JEG subscribes to maintenance agreements with all commercial

software licensors to receive all updates and technical support.
