The Dark Ages: Historical Creative Writing Assignment

Historical Question: Were the Dark Ages really dark?

Due Date: December 18th, 2018
Length: 250-500 words
Font: Times New Roman, size 12
Using information from the SHEG document on the Dark Ages, as well as your own research,
write a minimum of three paragraphs in the perspective of one of the citizens of the Dark Ages.
These paragraphs must talk about the daily life in the Middle Ages as well as the types of
activities that your assigned person would have completed during any given day. Keep in mind
that the final assignment should express how the character feels about the Dark Ages, and if
they feel that the Dark Ages are really as dark as people say that they are today.

It is encouraged that you be as creative with this assignment as possible. It is suggested that
you write your information in the form of a journal entry by your assigned characters, although
other suggestions can be brought to Ms. Kynock or Mr. Rutledge for approval. Before you write
your final response make sure you have researched thoroughly and are able to show evidence
that supports your character’s thoughts.
