Rayan, story time fun

Learning priority: developing confidence and verbal language skills

Here at An-Nur childcare centre, we get regular visits from Dunedin library story teller. And during
March visit, we held the story time outside, which turned out to be great for our tamariki. It was
great to see Rayan listening to the stories with great focus and interest.
We sang ‘five little monkeys’, while counting down five monkey images on a board. There were
alternating short story books and songs. I was pleased to see how you took part in acting the
songs, listening and following instructions; clapping hands, turning around etc.
Lastly librarian dug great little pop-up book from her bag of magic. It was great little book focusing
on positional words, while illustrating it in images that came to live, while the page turned open.
Something was inside a house, elevator moved up and down the page, and house lights turned
on and off. I think you would happily have listened more of her songs, but due to the diverse age
group the sessions are usually kept quite short.
