Abstract
“Solar powered charger to prolong smart device battery life:
A recommendation report”

Prepared by: Christian Diaz, Research Analyst

People are growing more dependent on technology every year and those devices constantly need
to be charged once the battery is running low. Because of this people try to preserve the battery
by not using it as often, and battery life will influence which smart device people will purchase.
Fortunately, our staff at Daybreak has been working towards solving this dilemma with the
renewable source of solar energy. With how cost effective solar powered devices are getting in
recent years our team has utilized this source of energy and incorporated it into a solar powered
phone case charger available to use in recent smart devices. That way, anyone will have access to
charge their device anywhere they want as long as they are in an area with sunlight.

Introduction

Purpose
The reason Daybreak would create such a product would help all smart device users gain more
time out of using their devices, not having to pack extra accessories to prolong battery life and
being able to take advantage of using clean energy as a power source. With solar powered
devices becoming more relevant, Daybreak has planned to take advantage now, proving its
importance to audience unfamiliar with the technology.

Problem
Old devices of yesterday did not have multipurpose functionality like applications, media
players, and online access, providing a more business-like purpose to smart devices almost never
needing extra battery life in their daily usage. Now that smart devices are more commercialized
for any audience, they have become a part of our daily lives and our dependence on the devices
are more than ever to complete important tasks requiring as much battery life as possible.

1
Daybreak staff will have better sense of what people are looking for in a efficient and firm
portable charger for future use.

Description
Several companies have helped produced solar powered products within reach of the public
market. Many products created utilizing solar energy are, electric powered automobiles,
residential electricity, solar roofs, and Daybreak’s recent product the solar powered phone case
charger. Similar to other solar powered products the solar powered charger absorbs sunlight and
converts that sunlight into electricity powering any electrical device as long as there's sunlight.
Our product takes a more simplified design with the solar panel itself being 4.8x5 inches fitting
on almost any device. The case the solar panel will be attached to will only be made to fit recent
phone size devices like Samsung’s S8 and Apple’s
Iphone X. To plug in a device, the case will have an USB output so any already owned charging
cable are ready to use with the device (Charging cable are sold separately). The total charge time
(4-5 hours) while longer than the average electric outlet (3-4 hours) allows for more accessibility
being able to take the charger with you able to use anytime.

Benefits

Convenience
A solar powered charger can charge smart devices without using an outlet. The source of solar
energy is limitless and reliable for everyday use. The charger will act as a secondary source of
power for smart devices. All smart devices that are rechargeable via USB will make our solar
powered phone charger compatible. The main criterion is allow smart device users to be able to
use their devices several hours each day but with the option to recharge their device in any area
with sunlight.

Costs
Because there’s nothing more annoying and frustrating than running out of power mid-day. The
smallest panel on the market delivers more than expected. The solar panel itself costing about
$7.99, the phone case depending on the brand will be $20-$25, and the USB output being the

2
cheapest will be $4.99 totaling the suggested manufacturer price tag of $45. To charge with the
solar case, simply connect a USB charging cable (not included) to your phone and plug-in the
male micro USB Connector Cable to the solar battery case.

Features
Slimmest, lightest solar assisted & battery integrated battery charger case available with flip
cover to provide our audience with the most luxurious case possible within our ability. The
integrated 2800 mAh lithium-polymer rechargeable battery provides additional talk time. Solar
energy can be utilized as a secondary source for smart devices

Concern

Solar powered charger will generate less energy depending on the weather. The charging process
will take longer for the solar powered charger compared to a standard smart device charger. The
Smart device will not charge at night.

Conclusion/Summary

In conclusion, the solar powered charger extends the option to charge smart devices with or
without an outlet. Solar energy is a clean, renewable fuel that can assist charging smart devices.
Currently, the majority of people depend on their smart devices for business and entertainment,
and Daybreak can offer long-lasting battery life with clean renewable energy.
