Introduction of the course:

The objective of this course paper is to impart in-depth knowledge of poverty and development to
the students to make them enlightened, sensitive and action-oriented to the problems of Poverty
and Development. This course paper studies the rules and regulations relating to safeguard the
interest and welfare of weaker sections of the society and development measures enforced by the
State/ authorities and competent institutions relating to poverty and development.

Module 3 Poverty: Concepts and Measurements

Different Concepts, indicators and measurement of Poverty,

National and International Poverty Line, Causes of Poverty,

Human Poverty, Rural Poverty, Estimates of Poverty in India,

Vulnerable Groups in India.
