Goals 

 
1 year goal (academic) 
● In one year I will I will have made the Dean's List at the University of Michigan. 
● This is important because: getting good grades in college will help to determine which 
jobs I get. 
● Right now, to reach this goal, I am: preparing myself to do well in college by doing well 
on AP exams and being a good student. 
● If I don’t reach this goal I: will try to try harder the next semester by studying more, 
performing well on exams, and being more dedicated to school. 
1 year goal (personal) 
● In one year I will: have made lots of new friends at U of M. 
● This is important because: having a community surrounding me who loves me and I love 
them is incredibly important to every part of my life. 
● Right now, to reach this goal, I am: finding a roommate and figuring out which of my 
friends are attending U of M so I can have some friends to start with. 
● If I don’t reach this goal I: will be okay, sometimes it’s hard to make friends. However, 
this is a goal which I will continue to strive for all my life and don’t plan on failing at. 
1 year goal (personal or academic) 
● In one year I will: have found a great church group at U of M. 
● This is important because: I know that I need a spiritual community around me to 
encourage and inspire me in my faith. 
● Right now, to reach this goal, I am: staying involved in my youth group at my home 
church. 
● If I don’t reach this goal I: will continue to be inspired by myself. Sometimes it's okay to 
do things alone, it teaches individuality and determination.  
 
5 year goal (academic) 
● In five years I will: have graduated college with a degree in a field that I am passionate 
about. 
● This is important because: passion is the key to life!!!! 
● Right now, to reach this goal, I am: experimenting with many different fields, figuring 
out what I might like and using process of elimination to determine what I don’t like. 
● If I don’t reach this goal I: will extend the deadline. While college would be a convenient 
time to develop my passions, I have my whole life to be passionate about many different 
things.  
5 year goal (personal) 
● In five years I will: be a better adult, and have learned lots of new things.  
● This is important because: while I don’t have to be able to be a real adult at 22, becoming 
more capable and independent is important to my development.  
● Right now, to reach this goal, I am: learning new life skills to make sure I will be okay on 
my own at college. 
● If I don’t reach this goal I: will ask for help. Lots of people know lots of things I don’t, 
and will probably teach/explain them to me if I ask.  
 
10 year goal (any) 
● In ten years I will: have a job I like!  
 ● This is important because: five (ish) years after graduating college, I should have a good 
idea about what I like to do and should be pursuing it. 
● Right now, to reach this goal, I am: preparing for college as best I can which will prepare 
me to have a job I like. One step at a time. 
● If I don’t reach this goal I: will continue to work hard at whatever job I am working at the 
moment, and look for new jobs.  
10 year goal (any) 
● In ten years I will: find joy in the ordinary everyday. 
● This is important because: life is pointless without joy. 
● Right now, to reach this goal, I am: finding joy in the ordinary! 
● If I don’t reach this goal I: will look for joy in everything, because this is the kind of life I 
want to live.
